I tried this on my 1.5ghz X41 and got it running at 2.0 with semi-good results. I ran some benchmarks with Everest as well. CPU runs hotter, maxing out around 75c overclocked.

Memory is my problem. I'm getting intermittent BSODs with messages pertaining to memory faults so I've snipped the wire for now. I'm ordering a 2gb stick soon and will try again then.

Any recommendation on what memory to get for OC'ing?

I live in Korea, and in Korea there are some workshops that can do the same modifications.
LED backlight is quite common in Korean workshops as well, and native SATA is available through a simple lead welding, for X41 motherboards are actually SATA from the birth. They are rather using PATA through a onboard converter. If you wire the SATA plugs onto the mainboard, the laptop actually recognizes SATA HDDs/SSDs without any BIOS modification(you will see 2010 error, though).
I'm not a specialist here, but I might be able to get some photos for Native SATA Modded X41...

BTW, X41Ts support all the Mods listed, and they are even easier to mod, especially the HDD, because larger dimensions make them easier to put in HDDs of various form factors and some additional components.

Umm, X41 Tablet doesn't support the same method of overclocking, I tried it on two different X41 Tablet boards. On regular X41 it worked perfectly.

@Raceboy: Ok that underlines my experiences with two X41t Boards, which both failed to OC.
@HoundKR: Your photos may help me a lot, because if the SATA Mod can be done easily, it will keep my X41t alive for much longer!

The X41 SATA mod was documented already about 2 years ago: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=90285

Shouldnt this work on all x41? At least to some extent? Cause it worked fine on one x41 an the other identical one refused to even boot. Just a quick battery icon flash and then nowt... And i know i did it correctly.

EDIT: I kill that bloody dog! Chewed on the power cord while i wasnt looking.... darn. Now i look like an idiot.

Hi,

I found old X41 Tablet version about year ago, its time to revive it. I put inside microSATA -> mSATA adapter fits perfectly with a bit of hot glue :D

MOD EDIT: Link changed per Trzyzet's request.

I'm waiting for parts needed to perform LED backlight mod, I make it as a last thing to do with this one.
But the most important thing is push this 1.5GHz Pentium into 2.0GHz like in regular X41. Probably mod on tablet version doesn't work because
units has to much different motherboards, which is normal in laptops. I'm waiting when my friend comes back from holiday, he has schematics and board views with all testing pins for both platforms. I should have more info on Wednesday, maybe Thursday when he give me this files and I will check it.

Best Regards!

Small Update: I receive boardview today and i found something interesting - overclock mod is a standard BSEL mod which was very popular in older CPU's with sockets.
Probably in X41t (i have boardview only for x41 and version for tablet version probably not exist in internet) bsel0 pin is somewhere else. When I found it and test it I will let you know guys.

Best regards! :D

I found!

There is no any testpoint for b_sel0 in X41t motherboard. Best way to perform this modification will be pull out motherboard and solder wire directly from GND to pin 53 of U30:
ImageImage
I can't test it right now - My cables for sata mod was too heavy, I don't secure wires properly and I broke capacitors with pads on M/B, I made new connections but I'm still waiting for capacitors. Maybe someone want to check it? :)

Hello, my motherboard dies in unexplained circumstances so I just order second one, bad for me only 1.2GHz CPU.

But I tried my idea with bsel0 mod and it works! :D

1.2GHz CPU is from the worst part of the silicon wafer so after OC to 1.6GHz computer is unstable and I can't even install linux on it. I/O errors.

Like always - I'm giving photos before and after bsel mod:

Hey everyone,

It is an old thread but i assume these devices never get old to any of us. I replaced my x40 mainboard with a X41 1.5ghz 512mb mainboard. I wonder if the wire trick to overclock it to 2.0ghz safe enough to be used on a daily basis without bsods, restarts ? Thanks.

I couldn't manage to overclock my X41 with the method given. I soldered to the exact same spots but nothing...

I have a x41t, I tried bridging the points shown by Trzyzet on my mobo, afterwards my laptop just no longer turned on. no flashing lights, nothing when I pressed the power button. Removing the wire fixed it, no problems with the board so far, But I would still love some help on performing this mod on an x41t.
