restore disks for X60

#1 Post by freemacsfortheblind » Sun Jan 08, 2012 11:32 am

Hi all,

I hope someone here can help please.

My name's Lewis, I'm a blind IT technician and founder of a small project / charity called Free Macs For The Blind. as the name states, I provide older but fully refurbished macs for blind and visually impaired young people as well as those with advanced disabilities with a suitable apple mac with adaptive accessibility software to help them with an equal chance in life to communicate and adapt.

I'm sponsored by a number of companies so far who have donated stock, products and specialist equipment which allow me to undertake specialist repairs on macs and I myself rely on a mac as the main rig, however.. some of the systems adapted for my needs including board test and repair equipment use windows software and rely on a screen reader such as JAWS to handle the work.

It's with this that I had contacted a company who dealt with refurbed windows laptops who would be willing to help. They have donated a refurbed IBM thinkpad X60 notebook which will handle my needs very well. it's due to be with me on monday so I don't know the machine serial number, etc. The laptop is going to be used to diagnose and run the diagnostic and repair hardware including speaking loggers, rework equipment, etc as well as disk destruction tools and other equipment.

I've been told there is no OS on the machine but has the windows XP Pro COA sticker underneath.

Does anyone here have recovery CD / DVD's for this laptop which I could either lend or use to restore the system to it's natural state? so that I can then load my software, screen reader, braille display drivers, etc?

Unfortunately as my project is not funded by any areas, I don't have funds to purchase recovery media from lenovo UK, that's if they still do the original disks for the X60. I have searched the internet and found a site in the USA but it's drivers only and not the complete restore set.

Could anyone please help?

Yours with many thanks.

Lewis.

With thanks to a very kind person on this forum, I'm now about to fully restore the X60 so it runs the tools I need. I am just amazed at how, with such a short amount of time, someone has come to my aid. I really appreciate this. Have just had to do some cosmetic work on it and adapt it from BIOS so it runs better for me. what an amazing little notebook.

with many thanks.

Lew.
