I need to replace the fan of my X60s. I looked for the type (1702-E8G) in the hardware maintainance manual under fan assembly, but my type isn't listed there, yet there are several different FRUs for other models. I haven't yet opened it up and would like to wait until I get the replacement (also, I can't boot anymore, "Fan error").

Is there any way to find out which FRU(s) will fit?

The only sellers in Australia I found on-line have fans with FRU 42X3805 (60.4B413.001 MCF-W03PAM05), which are listed in the hardware manual as "Standard Voltage". My x60s has a L2500 cpu, thus low voltage. Will that fan still fit?

according to this post (viewtopic.php?p=664860#p664860) this FRU (42X3805) is for X61s models. Are X61s and X60s similar enough that it might still fit?

Were it me in the same position, I'd open up the system and see what FRU is on the existing fan. Besides getting the correct part number and seeing what it really looks like (the drawings in the HMM sometimes lack detail), think of it as practice for when the real thing is needed .

Wow, a lot of people are making this mistake!

Do not buy 42X3805 for your x60s.

Unfortunately there is an error in that topic you reference: viewtopic.php?p=664860#p664860 and evidently the topic was locked by the 1st (original) poster since he found the fan he wanted (but I can tell you it was not 42X3805). The reason 42X3805 didn't fit the x60 Tablet chassis of the 2nd poster is the same reason it won't fit your x60s.

42X3805 will not fit an x60s or x61s. It is too large and will not physically fit inside the chassis. 42x3805 is for an x61, not x61s.

x60s fan FRU 41V9747, FRU 41V9748
x60 fan FRU 41V9749, FRU 42W2522
x61s fan FRU 42X3804
x61 fan FRU 42X3805

So, as mentioned here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=104369 x60 and x61 fans are larger size and are interchangeable. x60s, x61s, x60 Tablet and x61Tablet fans are smaller in size and are interchangeable. So, for your x60s, you can use x60s fan FRU 41V9747 or FRU 41V9748, x61s fan FRU 42X3804 or even x60 Tablet fan FRU 41V9748 or x61 Tablet FRU 42x4399.

I somehow must have missed that marketplace WB thread you linked to when I searched the forum.

I did indeed disassemble it and found that the fansink FRU is 41V9748, as it should be for LV CPUs.
I found a seller that has a x61 Tablet FRU 42x4399 fansink, which I'm going to try for now. They have LV CPUs as well, so I think it should be fine, temperature wise.
