My first x61

#1 Post by theuglycamel » Thu Jun 21, 2012 1:17 pm

Hello everyone, I've already done my noob thing over on the x41 site. I just wanted to drop in on this side to brag about my new baby. I just ordered 4 x60 tablets from ebay (3 bad 1 actually "new") for less than 180.00. Between my "Box-o-IBMs" and the spare's I ordered, I'm now a proud owner of a very clean x60 L2500. Only thing I'm waiting on now is my second stick of 2gb 5300. So i'm now overrun with thinkpads, I've got my loaded x41, this new core 2 duo, and enough parts to make another decent x60.... Problem is, I don't wanna get rid of any of them lol.

Hi the ugly camel,

Welcome to the forum!

Congrates on the x60 that you scored! I am wondering what the site is for the x41? Also, your problem is that you don't want to get rid of any. I know the feeling my friend but I need to find them new homes so they will be used and not collecting dust, so I will sell most of them and keep maybe four or three.

Again, congrates on being a new owner of a very clean x60 L2500!

You title the thread with X61, but you bought machines of the previous generation X60.
I hate to be a spoilsport, but your X60 L2500 is NOT a Core 2 Duo, but just a Core Duo.

Some X60 models with a CPU number starting with T5xx or T7xx or L7xx are Core 2 Duo.
Putting in 4GB RAM is unfortunately not supported, only ~3GB will be recognized, regardless of OS.

All the X61 have Core 2 Duo and support up to 8GB RAM (with a 64-bit OS).

Akk, you nailed me on the title. I was typing what I was seeing, not what I was thinking lol. And thanks for the info on the core 2, after digging around I've found where my confusion was. It appears that the L7400 IS a Core 2 Duo, but runs at 1.5. As for the memory, I always run 4gb in my 32bit machines, just for that 3.5. I know it's a waste, but I'd rather have the extra .5 than not. Thanks for all the welcomes!

Is it true that the x61s can handle 8 Megs of Ram?

T61/R61/X61 all can handle 8GB (usable in connection with a 64-bit OS).
Don't you read anything on the forum? This is all over the place...

I am sorry I thought there was a 4 Gig Ram limit. I wrote the response quickly because I was looking at x61s machines for me to buy, so I was a little shocked that it could support the amount of memory. I should have used the search feature but my impulse got the best of me.
