Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
Hello, I'm new at forum and I have one question...
I have my ibm x60, it's a great notebook, but I would appreciate 64bit cappable CPU and up to 8GB RAM...
It is possible to buy ibm x61/x61s motherboard (i saw some on ebay) and put it in x60 case? What about LCD and keyboard... will it fit?
Thank for any help.

I don't know if the X61 board would fit but there are some X60 models that have Core 2 Duo processors which are 64-bit capable. Perhaps you could replace your board with one that has one of these processors if you really want to go 64-bit (unfortunately this wouldn't fix the 3GB limitation of the X60).

Yes, either an X61 or X61s motherboard will fit an X60 case (...but not vice versa: only an X61s motherboard will fit an X60s case).filletzz wrote:... It is possible to buy ibm x61/x61s motherboard (i saw some on ebay) and put it in x60 case? What about LCD and keyboard... will it fit? ...
HOWEVER, the fingerprint reader connector on the X61/s board is in a different location and in a different orientation than on the X60/s board, thus the fingerprint reader cable and fingerprint reader are not interchangeable between X61/s and X60/s. In other words, if you want the fingerprint reader to work, then the palm rest (keyboard bezel), fingerprint reader, and its cable have to match the motherboards -- X60/s has its own fingerprint reader/cable/bezel and X61/s has its own.
Re: Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
I wanted to hear that :)
Fingerprint reader isn't important for me, but if I'll need it in future there is still option to buy x61 palmrest and put it into x60 case, am I right?

Re: Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
Correct -- you would need not only a palmrest with the opening for the fingerprint reader, but also the fingerprint reader circuit board which mounts under the palmrest, plus the flat cable to connect it to the motherboard (the "full" palmrest assembly is also available as one FRU#).filletzz wrote:... Re: Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
Ok, thank you for help... After payment I'll buy x61 motherboard + palmrest and I'll put it into my x60.
I'll write how it happened... :)

Re: Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
Does the same apply for the X60t?
Re: Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
no. your fingerprint reader connects to the LCD cable and the bluetooth card connects where the FPR normally goes on the notebooks.sirfergy wrote:Does the same apply for the X60t?

Re: Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
I would also like to know this! I have a damaged X60t mobo and if I can replace it with an x61t mobo I would get an upgrade to a Core 2 Duoavdim wrote:But will X61t motherboard fit X60t?
Re: Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
Getting back to the fingerprint reader.
I was under the impression that while the X60 fingerprint reader in in the center while the X61 reader is to the right, the connector is in the same place on either motherboard. The X61 has a longer ribbon cable to reach it that's all.
Of course there is no infrared on the X61 but the top bezel will fit either way.
I'd prefer to have the X61 bezel because of the cooling vents on the front right, I don't know if the core 2 duo runs hotter than the plain duo core of the X60 but the palmrest gets hot enough that any additional cooling would be OK by me.
The above is for the X60 (s) and X61(s) not the tablet, only because I have no idea about them.

Any luck with this project? Also anyone know about the x61t mobos fitting into x60t?

Yes, I did such mod. A short report posted in this thread http://www.thinkpads.com/forum/viewtopi ... 30&t=90137richtrix wrote:Any luck with this project? Also anyone know about the x61t mobos fitting into x60t?
Re: Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
Correct, I also use an X61 palmrest on an X60. Only infrared is not usable any more, but I can live with that.tim S wrote:I was under the impression that while the X60 fingerprint reader in in the center while the X61 reader is to the right, the connector is in the same place on either motherboard. I have have two X60 with T2400 (CoreDuo) and T7200 (C2D) and I can hardly see any difference. But my "low voltage" X60s (L2400) gets about 10 degrees celsius hotter. Blame it on the smaller fan in the s.tim S wrote:I don't know if the core 2 duo runs hotter than the plain duo core of the X60 but the palmrest gets hot enough that any additional cooling would be OK by me.

Re: Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
Can I put X61s motherboard (With core 2 Duo L7500 cpu) in to X60 case? My motherboard failed and now I need a replacement and deciding between T2500 (X60) and L7500 (X61s) motherboards.

Re: Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
Both the X60 (confirmed, I've done this before) and the X60s (unconfirmed, but I have X60s motherboards and they appear they would fit) should work.

Re: Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
Have you installed X60s motherboard in X60 chassis?
I want to install this motherboard (x61s) in X60:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAINBOARD-IBM ... 1e6edbb0c4
I want better battery life. Now I can choose between T7300 (x61) motherboard and that other (x61s) motherboard in link above.

Re: Switch motherboard from x61 to x60?
The cases are different, but I won't say "no you can't". I know that an x60 motherboard will noit fit in an x60s because the x60 case has more space for the fan and cooling. I would GUESS that an x60s MB would fit, but I don't have the parts around to check.
