Can I use an x31 lcd in my x60s?
I have an X60s with a column of dead pixels. I also have an older x31 with a perfect lcd screen. Has anyone ever swapped one for the other and if so, how did it work out. Thank you kindly.

Hi Geraldo...welcome to the forum.
Unless you are able to add an EDID chip to the X31 panel and flash it with data from the X60s...then no...it won't work. Even if you did try adding the chip, I'm not sure it would work, or be wise to even try.
It's not a straight up swap any way you look at it.

Re: Can I use an x31 lcd in my x60s?
Correction: XGA screens don't have/need an EDID chip.
If the X60s LCD cable fits in the back of the X31 LCD, and the mounting holes on the side of the LCD also match, it could be a straight swap.
They both appear to be 20-pin connectors.
Find the datasheets of both LCDs with Google, using the info from the back of the LCD panel, and compare the pin layouts.
10:1 they are the same, but it's better to be safe.

Re: Can I use an x31 lcd in my x60s?
The X31 and X6x design shared at least one LCD panel (the BOE-Hydis HT121X01-101), so my bet is that they are likely compatible.
But again, check the datasheets to be sure (unless you're feeling daring...)

Well there you go. Learn something new every day. I thought the GPU would need a way to identify the needed resolution whether XGA or greater. My apologies for the misinformation.

Comrades - thank you all for your input. This new information certainly puts a new spin on my weekend. I'll be taking the panel out of the x31 in any case so I'll let you know how things progress. Thanks again, Geraldo.

I will add that most BOE panels have an eeid chip containing valid configuration info.

How did the progress for the LCD go? I'm curious to how interchangeable the parts are between different thinkpad models.

Ho there, alas - I have no information to pass on yet, work has kept me away from home for a little while and I haven't had a chance to work on the laptops. Realistically, it won't be until the weekend now but I'll be sure to post details here when I have them.
Thanks again for the advice chums.
