Hmm alright, oh well about the patch. Umm im getting the same thing with mouse locator as well, though the mouse locator definitely helps.

Ok, did not like the tearing. I just went back to the standard driver setup (71C5).

I tried to run doom3 before I did, but could not get it o run and did not have time to figure out why.

So, by not having QE or CI, what will I not be able to do?

Basically with the standard driver without the QE/CI support, you have no graphics acceleration. Screen savers and any OpenGL programs will not work, and many of the small yet semi noticable animation features also will not work. All games will not work. Umm thats all i can think of as of now, ill get back to you if i can think of anything else.

Ok, so I do not play games.
Can live without the pretty screensavers.
I have not noticed some of the animated stuff, but that may be because I am not a Mac person.

I think the artifacts bug me more than the loss of the other stuff.

The reason doom 3 probably didn't work is because resolution switching didn't work :P If you switched to the starting resolution of doom 3, or figured out a way to flag it to run in a certain resolution, it would work. I was running warcraft 3 & WoW no problems (and warcraft 3 doesn't even come with an intel patch! rosetta!!!)

It would appear from this post (and others) that the T60p is a good machine to install OS X onto......can you all please comment on whether you are using OS X on a day-to-day basis even in light of the less than perfect install (i.e. cursor movement tearing, etc.).

I am in a dilemma, I want a thinkpad badly, but cannot stand XP, I also want to use OS X badly, but cannot stand the MacBook and MacBook Pro.....

Thanks,

You can, of course, get the Thinkpad and put OS X on it. Or you could get the Thinkpad, make the RnR disk set, then wipe the drive and install BSD or Linux on it, then re-shell and re-window the OS to look and act like OS X (not that difficult, especially with BSD). Or you could order it with SuSE Novell Linux from IBM/Lenovo from the get go, but I haven't checked as to how expensive that is.

All depends on how "badly" you want to use OS X. ;) :)

Hi all,

I've been visiting and revising this thread for several days now trying to get OSX working on my 2623-DDU. After long last, it finally works and I just wanted to post what I did in the hopes that it will for someone else. I took little bits and pieces from different guides to get my T60p working at 1600x1200 with CI and QE and no visual tearing

System specs:
IBM T60p 2623-DDU
1GB RAM, 100GB HDD, 1600x1200, ATI V5200 256mb

OSX image:
JaS 10.4.7 Intel/AMD ISO

I first imaged my XP install with TrueImage in case this all went wrong. Partitioned my drive with DiskDirector, carving off a 10GB partition for OSX, formatted as FAT32, set to primary, called it OSX so I could find it later. Installed OS Selector from the DiskDirector package.

- Booted from the JaS DVD
- Selected Disk Editor (I think it's called that) from the top menu bar
- Chose the OSX partition that I formatted before as FAT32
- Erased and formatted it using the MacOS with journaling
- Stepped through the prompts until the screen with the Customize button came up.
- On the customize screen, I deselected Languages and Printers
- From the JaS dropdown menu, I selected the Intel combo, SSE3, and that's it.
- I did not select SSE2, the x1600 package, the GMA900 package, wireless, or any of the AMD stuff.

Got coffee while it installed

On first boot had a working 1024x768 desktop after dealing with the .mac hard sell and entry of my personal info (and people yell at Microsoft?)

System Profiler details:
Machine Name: jMac
Machine Model: ADP2,1
CPU Type: Genuine Intel® CPU T2500 @
Number Of CPUs: 2
CPU Speed: 2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 2 MB
CPU Features: FPU VME DE PSE TSC MSR PAE MCE CX8 APIC SEP MTRR PGE MCA CMOV PAT CLFSH DS ACPI MMX FXSR SSE SSE2 SS HTT TM SSE3 MON VMX EST TM2 TPR
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 79ET65WW (1.09a) (LENOVO)

Note that SSE3 is listed and SSE2 is also listed, even though I did not select it during install.

Did all instructions for Video for the first page of this thread as recommended my MalevolentEvil:
- sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext
- sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
- sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.kext

In ATINDRV.kext/Contents/Info.plist changed to
<key>IONameMatch</key>
<string>LCD</string>

I did not change (differs from most recommendations):
<key>IOProviderClass</key>
<string>IONDRVDevice</string>

I think this prevents me from getting visual tearing.

No other files were modified.

sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache
sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX1000.kext
sudo kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions
sudo diskutil repairPermissions /

Reboot

After reboot, System Profiler shows:
Type: VGA-Compatible Controller
Bus: PCIe
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
Device ID: 0x71c4
Revision ID: 0x0000
Displays:
Display:
Resolution: 1600 x 1200
Depth: 32-bit Color
Core Image: Supported
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Supported

Thanks all for the help in this thread. It wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

your method does not stop visual tearing for me, and QE-CI was supported in all the other methods.

i found an actual working way to have nearly perfect graphics! disable beamsync and use mouselocator. by disabling beamsync, the mouse is alot faster when using mouse locator. I'll post instructions soon! :D

Hi,

i'm tryin to install 10.4.8 on my X60s.
But everytime, when i've finished, the system doesn't boot.
If i use the -v option, there are some messages "failed to load extension com.apple.xxxxxx"

Does anyone exactly know, which of the packages i have to select and which one i am not allowed to select?

I've tried it several times, but no success since now :(

Although I tried to follow the lines, I still can't make my T60p to display 1600x1200. However, I deleted all the ATIRadeon* by accidence, and... guess what? After rebooting, I got a 1600x1200 display mode. I don't know if this really work, but as I check my directory, I didn't see any ATIRadeon* stuff. Maybe someone can try this can have some feedback.

I forgot to mention that one still have to do all the necessary changes list on this thread, then delete all the ATIRadeon* files. Hope this works for all of you.

OK... This is my 2nd try of getting UXGA, and it works. So... let me talk of how I did it, and hopefully this will help most of you.
1) Open the file:
/System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX1000.kext/Contents/Info.plist

2) and find the line "<key>IOPCIMatch</key>". Modify the next line to say: "<string>0x71091002 0x71C41002 0x71C01002</string>"

3) Open the file "/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist"

4) after the lines:
"<key>Boot Graphics</key>
<string>Yes</string>"

add the lines:

"<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1600x1200x32</string>"
These 4 steps are MaloventEvil's original post.

Then, if you want, backup all the ATIRadeon* files, then delete all of them. Try doing:
sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeon*

After the previous step, reboot right away. Don't apply any other steps on this thread. You will then get a UXGA display back.

t60p

#76 Post by rince » Tue Apr 10, 2007 6:27 pm

hi everyone

I bought a T60p last week ( 20078JG ) and since I nearly bought a macbook instead i wanted to try installing macosx on it :-)

so i got an iso
( the name of the iso was: JAS 10 4 8 OSx86 10 4 8 Patched DVD SSE3 ),
burned it to a dvd and booted...

unfortunately right after the apple symbol appears it tells me I need to reboot...
booting with -v flag gave me this:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x001A3110): Unresolved Kernel trap ( CPU 0, Type 14 = page fault)
registers etc.

Should I try an other Image or does anyone have any other hints ?
I also tried booting in safe mode... still the same problem

I also tried copying an installed macosx on a partition following this guide:
http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index ... d_Accurate

but trying to boot it, it gave me a hfs+ partition error... after copying the /usr/standalone/i386 files to another partition and adapting grub it said:
Error 12: Invalid device requested

Thanks in advance for any help :-)

As I remembered, the first time you reboot the system, you will always get this error. You need to fixed it (probably by fdisk /mbr) in order to make Mac OS bootable. Please check the following link for more information:

so far I managed to get the native resoultion ( 1400x1050 ) working...
network adapter worked out of the box...

goodbye osx

#80 Post by elqed » Tue May 08, 2007 5:25 am

Hi all,

I just wanted to post my experience with osx86 on my 2623ddu.

Thanks to MaloventEvil and others on this forum I was able to successfully install osx on my t60p.

Before mentioning why the post is titled "goodbye osx", I'll share some hints for how I got osx installed for those who would like to do so.

I used the "JaS.Mac.OS.X.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3.PPF.1.Defiant.diskutil.biker880.ich7-R.patch.Integrated" image available on piratebay. I can't provide a blow by blow of the installation, but can say that advice found here and at the insanelymac forum will get you a nearly perfect install of osx.

I say nearly perfect because I, like many others, had the mouse tearing issue and my thinkpad would not sleep - no amount of kext editing I did eliminated these problems, but unsanity's mighty mouse made the mouse tearing largely unnoticeable. But I had sound, wireless (with the atheros card), and QC/QE. I'm no stranger to osx (writing this post on my MacPro), other than the lack of sleep and the slight tearing - osx on the t60p felt genuine.

In the end, the issue that caused the most distress, and the reason my XP install is currently being restored) was the temperature of my CPU.

After seeing the CPU temp regularly hit 78C to 80C when the box was nearly idle (just coding in Emacs) bothered me (to say the least). Even with my fairly impressive (if I may say so myself) google-fu, I was unable to find a solution. I found many message talking about speedstep on OSX and the general consensus was to install a 10.4.9 patch - specifically "koolkal’s reloaded combo update"; to get speedstep working on osx86. My humble recommendation is to avoid this patch.

A darn shame... osx86 is soooo close, yet too far (for everyday "production" use). The bigger shame is that Apple isn't willing to sell osx for non-apple hardware. I'd happily fork over money to run an uncompromised osx on my t60p - it would be the absolute perfect laptop (for me).

Sadly, I may be forced to buy a MBP (and deal with the darn touchpad, the crappy resolution, and it's... um... daintiness).

I have t60 2623 a24 with ATI1400 14" 1400x1050 lcd.
So far no problem at all with power management. Thinkpad stays cool all the time like it is working in VISTA.
Managed to get almost everything working but not dual display - nothing on my 32 lcd tv (1360x768). Probably you need to use that power management bundle that is recommended on forum (for battery icon)?

No issues with high CPU temperatures here either... I usually see 50 to 51'C while idling in the Finder. This is with the battery meter and basic power management working on the 2623-DDU.

I was reading through this thread and it seems that there's a lot of really great information. Unfortunately although I have a T60p I have a different make than you guys so I can't necessarily follow your steps exactly. Basically, I was wondering if the FireGL 5200 and 5250 were similar enough for me to utilize the methods mentioned in this thread. Of course I'd have to change the DevID ..but besides that would the driver be compatible?

Any other suggestions or links are appreciated.

FireGL 5250 is slightly different than 5200 and you need to do a few more modification in order for full graphics to work. There is another thread here which describes the steps needed for FireGL to work in MacOS X 10.5

This is a guide for fully installing OS X on your T60P 2623DDU. I struggled with a few things but got everything working eventually
Can I read the guide in XP? if not, do you have one readable? Thanks.

My guess? It just worked.

I have a T60p 8743 and when I installed Kalyway 10.5.2 my bluetooth just worked out of box.
