T61 (Intel): Steps for Lion & Mint install to 2nd HD?

Hi Guys,

I've been perusing some of the recent threads here for instructions, and most seem to be step-by-steps for dual boots, or based on other models. I'm curious if anyone has done a clean install to a secondary HD that could be run from a 2nd HDD adapter in the Ultrabay, and differences for an install on an Intel-based T61.

I specifically want to install Lion or Snow Leopard to a empty 160GB drive in my UB. I'd also like to leave room for a Mint install there too, since I won't be doing a dual-boot one on my main HD (Had thought about it). Are there some changes or preparation I should undertake before the OS install to make sure I can then add Linux? (Like using a different bootloader, formatting it differently etc)

I appreciate any advice. :)

Thanks for any help.

To an OS, there's no difference between internal SATA and Ultrabay SATA.
Lion installer can see both.

If you gonna make ur UB HDD dual-boot, you may have to
- Partition UB HDD as GPT
- Install the Linux first, then the Lion
- Use Chameleon or other darwin bootloader in UB HDD
- Use chain0 method or sth. like that b/c Chameleon cannot chain boot Win in another drive.

You may see my Lion installation post and try it.

Thanks!

I don't plan on booting Win7 via the 2nd HD bootloader, and want the primary HD untouched (Don't want to screw with TV button functionality or R&R), so I'd F12 or set the BIOS to boot from the 2nd HD.

I thought three partitions were necessary: One for Lion, one for Linux, and one for storage?

Without GRUB? Or, should I install GRUB to the Linux partition and have Chameleon chainload? If Chameleon can boot Linux without GRUB, I'd rather avoid the additional process.

Darwin has no GUI, right? (At least, not that I have seen yet) Chameleon reminds me of Refit, which I'm used to.

Since I don't want Chameleon to boot Win 7, should I avoid that?

install grub to the partition, not to the MBR
