Unrecoverable Operating System

#1 Post by stillgreenwcpus » Sun Sep 21, 2008 2:04 pm

Our Lenovo Laptop N100 would first only boot to the Rescue & Recovery Program. We have performed all the tests/scans available (including the RnR program) and still are unable to recover our laptop.

Called Lenovo, and after 2.5 weeks, after the purchase of the RnR Disks (laptop out of warranty), disks arrived - followed all instructions to the letter - and when we get to the point in the Recovery process where the loading of the OS is supposed to take place, the computer freezes. We have left computer in this state for greater than 18 hours - waiting on the 'Next' button to become available (undithered) - it never happens.

I appreciate any and all comments/suggestions.

I think your hard drive has gone bad. Based on what you said, it sounds like the computer cannot write to the hard drive for some reason. I would replace the hard drive and then run the R&R cds again. You cannot use the built in system because that info is on the original hard drive, but the recovery CD should put that back on the new hard drive.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

BEFORE YOU DO THAT make sure you install and run memtest64. This can happen with a bad memory stick to, and can act like a dead hard drive. It's not fun to buy a new hard drive and still have issues...
