X201....1440x900
Hey!
Like to know, the original display of the X201s isn't such a great thing...which other display would fit, which other display i would be able to use instead of that,
will the X200 LED display fit?
Or would it even be wiser to buy an X200s.
So what to do?
Thanx for any help.

Yes, the entire "top" of the X200[s] will fit perfectly on an X201[s]. You could buy only the display for an X200[s], but these days that's often more expensive on eBay than a complete used X200[s] ... which you can dismantle and use a la Legos.PandorasThinkpad wrote:will the X200 LED display fit? Re: X201....1440x900
This is my exact same question I have as well. I am looking to replace my x201 screen with an x201s screen I want to get off of ebay.
But what determines a computer's resolution?
I don't want to get a high resolution screen, change it, only to find out it got bottle necked somewhere and I'm stuck using the same old resolution.
Furthermore, is the x201s screen the best one I can get?

Welcome to the forum!
If you're buying a full LCD assembly it's a straight swap, if you buy only the panel you may need a different LCD bezel IIRC3xOSC wrote:I am looking to replace my x201 screen with an x201s screen I want to get off of ebay
Even if you have a 1280x800 screen, there's nothing that will limit you putting a 1440x900 screen and showing the correct resolution.3xOSC wrote:I don't want to get a high resolution screen, change it, only to find out it got bottle necked somewhere and I'm stuck using the same old resolution
Depends what you mean with "best" . For sure it's the one with the highest resolution. There are also AFFS/PVA panels with higher contrast and better viewing angles, but I'm not sure that they can be modded in an X201, you will probably need a different LCD cable and an inverter.3xOSC wrote:Furthermore, is the x201s screen the best one I can get?

The alternative: get an X200/X200s with 1440x900 LED screen, and replace its motherboard with one from an X201.

I see.
For the x201s, is it true that, not only does the screen have to be exchanged but the lid as well?

Re: X201....1440x900
I just checked the HMM, for WXGA+ screens you need a different bezel (45N3232, 75Y4731 or 04W0361) and different lid (75Y4591)

Also uses a different LCD cable and LED card.

how does a CCFL screen of the x200s differ from the WXGA of the x201 though?
is one clearly "better" than the other?

Re: X201....1440x900
Lid swaps are relatively easy, just follow the maintenance manual. LCD panel swaps are harder. If you are doing a lid swap and doing the work anyways, I'd take the time to clean everything out, reapply thermal compound and seat the heatsink fan.
Re: X201....1440x900
Thanks all.
Can any one just clarify that one question up above regarding CCFL screens and WXGA?
Can any one just clarify that one question up above regarding CCFL screens and WXGA?
Re: X201....1440x900
New, they are very similar. However, given that any CCFL screen you'd get from an X200s these days has had quite a bit of usage, a similar LED screen is likely to look "newer" and less "yellow". Therefore, statistically, for a used TFT LCD panel, an LED-backlit unit will be closer to new specs than a similar CCFL-backlit unit.3xOSC wrote:how does a CCFL screen of the x200s differ from the WXGA of the x201 though?

Re: X201....1440x900
Both X200 and X201 can have either CCFL or LED screens.
The CCFL lid is different from a LED lid, but the whole lid fits on both.

Re: X201....1440x900
Your X201 has a LED screen already (unless you have it 2nd hand and the screen was changed), the WXGA+ screens you find in X200s and X201s are also LED.
I thought you wanted to upgrade the resolution of your X201. I see no point going from WXGA LED to WXGA CCFL

Re: X201....1440x900
Thanks.
So I guess that from what I get from this is that WXGA+ exists on the x200s as well as the CCFL, and it is newer.
Both lids work and should be swapped from x200s unit onto the x201.

Re: X201....1440x900
Hey!
Well, thought too, to give an answer again,
my X200s has arrived in early may, it has LED and 1440x900 and i like it very well, now i look for an X201s with an defect display and the i7-640LM, so i can just/ have just to change my display to the X201....
the X201 with an defect display should be not very expensive...so i keep looking for this.
What i can tell about the X200s and the display, it is very bright and i don't want to miss it again. What i don't understand is how one could live with an 1280x800 display, because this one, the 1440x900 is just hardly small enough, even to get all the opened windows managed on it, so the 1280x800 must be a real torture.
Sincerly,
Pandora

Hello guys,
I replaced the x200 motherboard with a x201 i5, after system installation and graphic drivers, I get only 1280 x 800. The option of 1440 x 900 is no longer available. Anyone has experience with this scenario?

Did your X200 have a screen with 1440x900 before the swap?
Or did the X201 have that 1440x900?
Both X200 and X201 motherboards can display 1440x900, but a 1280x800 screen can not!

the X200 I had did have the 1440x900 resolution.
Since the motherboard swap to X201, the highest resolution I can choose is 1280 x 800

Re: X201....1440x900
I suggest you uninstall the graphics driver, then reboot.
Your machine may want to update drivers itself.
If it finds Chipset and Graphics drivers, fine.
If not, go here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product ... nkpad-x201
and D/L + install first the X201 Chipset drivers, followed by the X201 Graphics drivers.

Re: X201....1440x900
Hi folks!
I've managed it to get an X201 with i7, not very cheap indeed....screen is a LP121WX3-TLC1, is this quite a good one, should i really change the screen with the X200s and move the 1440x900 panel to the X201, would this be really useful?
I would have to change the bottom case...so change the display, too?
Any suggestions about?
Or should i look for another display that would be the very best for the X201, which display this would be?
Any hints in this?
Thanx a lot,
sincerly,
Pandora

Re: X201....1440x900
That's an LG Philips 1280x800 LED screen.
Personally I'd prefer the 1440x900.
You can swap complete lids between X200/s and X201, much less work.

Re: X201....1440x900
Hi, Update,
i have recently created my own X201 I7 1440x900, i got an X200s with 1440x900 Display and build it in my X201 I7, quite a nice thing....
the two X201 machines will stay for some while...as for the x220 has only 16:9, the new keyboard.....
If i will give an T430s the chance.....i'm not quite sure about....
by now, the X201 is my favorite thinkpad.
Greets,

Re: X201....1440x900
To those who did the X200S-X201 lid swap, did your X200S come with a display that just had generally poor color reproduction, and poor brightness/lighting distribution?
I did the whole swap procedure, realized how unsatisfactory the color and lighting were, and swapped it back. It was a serious strain on the eyes. The original 1280x800 screen that came with my 201 doesn't look that bad for a TFT panel, but I do want them pixels.

I've done three lid swaps and have a fourth ready to do.
Neither I nor the three new owners had anything negative to say about the LCDs.
