X201 Warranty Service Issues? Help!!

#1 Post by LemarAntwanJackson » Fri Jan 02, 2015 11:54 am

I had a rattling fan and sent my x201 in for repair. I'm certain it was the fan and the fan only with problems as I experienced the same on my T61 and had that fixed successfully. Lenovo's Repair Center apparently swapped my system board instead of just replacing the fan. In a call to them I was told I got a system board with "integrated fan" as it would reduce noise. I had no issue with fan noise just after4 years of use my x201's fan bearings simply wore out. All they had to do was replace the fan like users seem to have done on this board by themselves.

My issue is I probably got a refurbished system board whose quality and past issues and future reliability are unknown when I sent it in with a good babied system board.

What are my remedies at this point?

I haven't received the x201 back yet but its on its way.

No remedies, and no reasons to look for one.

Enjoy your new board. Seriously.

Hundreds of repairs by Memphis center over the past decade with just one screw-up.

OK. Will take your word for it. Proof will be when the machine comes back and the durability of the refurbed part. My prior experience with repairs with Lenovo's depot has been good but it was just one repair for a fan.

Others: Dell used Qualex for on site service. Technician replace a fan on a desktop but left screws on the table.
Toshiba repair center. Young "urban" kid developed a chip on shoulder after 2 failed "refurbed" motherboard swaps. Later, they cracked the case trying to put things back together and denied until I went nuts.

Most horror stories I've heard have been from on-site repairs, regardless of laptop brand. It's harder to hire qualified people for on-site service, and many of the techs need to rush through their jobs. Have faith in this depot repair of your X201.

I got it back. It boots with SSD back in. Haven't done anything else yet.

BUT they messed up my screen. Cleaned the casing as can smell the cleaner. The idiot who did it also wiped around the bezel and some of it smeared and left a haze around the edges of the screen. How to get it off? They offered to take it back and replace but I'd rather just clean it. How to get it off? If I can't would you let them on site replace the screen or send it in? I want a new one not a refurbed as I ran mine with a monitor and mine was effectively new.

Has a perfume like "fresh" smell. I called and was told they used a "laptop cleaner". The problem is they wiped the edges of the bezel and it seems they also wiped the LCD. I tried cleaning the residue if that is what it is but have been unsuccessful.

Isopropyl alcohol on a soft cloth should do it...

Tried a little. Doesn't work. F this s. Someone at Lenovo needs to lose their job for this. Way below customer expectations for a repair. They totally f up the job and left me with time wasted and frustration. Someone will be unemployed when I'm done with this.

My screen was perfectly clean and black after only cleaning with a microfiber cloth and pure water (distilled) when necessary. I used a monitor almost all the time as well. I got this back. And the case has a strong perfume smell. I cant believe what the clowns did.
