Apparently the ETA for the new X201 models is 02-23-2010

Should I get a X200 now for around $730 (P8700) or the new X201 $877.78 (I3-330M)?

Where can you find a X200 for 730?

Personally I'll wait a bit to see some real life user experience of X201, but I do favour newer technology, specially the price difference is only around $50.

The $730 deal was in buy.com last few days. Now I think back to around 900ish... Models 745432u/745433u and 7454gku...

According to CPU benchmark i3-330 is faster than P8700 although i3-330 is 2.13GHz compare to P8700 2.53 Ghz..

I'm so excited about the X201s!

Has there been any word on WSXGA+?

I'm starting a new position in a few weeks and sadly a 27" iMac is not portable enough, as I'll be spending a lot more time in the data center on top of bouncing back and forth between two offices. I use a 13" MacBook Pro when I'm at the data center now, but that 1280x800 screen resolution is maddening!

I'll have an external monitor in both office locations, so the 1440x900 isn't a deal breaker; it would just be very nice to have.

Looks like TechBuy's prices are WAY over priced. Can configure an i7 X201 for around $2000AUD.
Lenovo.com.au are selling them online in Australia with 25% discounts till Sunday.
Started with a 10% discount on Friday morning, then 20% Friday Evening, and now 25% (Saturday)........
They keep changing the Weekend Sale evouchers....latest one is AUPTX270210.

Yes and no. The MacBook Pro screen is gorgeous (I can even get over the fact that there's a piece of glossy glass in front of it, I don't work in a high glare environment). I hear constant complaints about newer lenovo displays. Whatever new X-series laptop I get it'll be docked and used as a secondary display to a 24" IPS panel on my desk the majority of the time.

I do wish the mbp was as moddable as thinkpads are though. No display swapping here!

Thanks for the mention of lenovo.com/au roders! The U.S. site still doesn't have X201 anything. While it's not terribly useful to look at pricing (I assume it's not just a currency conversion because those prices are insanity if so), I can at least build some configs. I see WSXGA+ on the X201s, I'm happy now :)

Yeh prices here are CRAZY expensive, only comes worthwhile when you take off the 25% with the eCoupon.
Otherwise its best to order from the US and ship them here, even though they both get made in the same place.

It's your call what you personally do, but as piece of general advice that is badly flawed.

If you directly import a ThinkPad yourself, and it is damaged in transit, you can be in for a world of pain in getting the damage claim resolved. Something you wont see mentioned on Whirlpool!

Cheers,

Bill B.
