need solid esata cable for my t410? Which type of cable you

#1 Post by rychuu » Thu May 03, 2012 6:56 am

hello

I am using my Lenovo t410 laptop with large external hard disk connected via esata port all time.

I have a lot of problems, because cable which I have has straight plug which is easy to break by every move of hand. I have had problems where I move the hand and I disconnected external storage where I have volumes of the virtual machines which I am using all time.

I would like to have cable which will be bent at 90 degrees or less HORIZONTALLY as on the picture. ( sorry I am not a graphic designer... :)

I have tried to find a cable which will be bent as on the image. Unfortunately I cannot. I have found only cables which are straight or angled vertically in 90 degrees.

I hope that other Lenovo t410 users has same problems ;) and they have found any solution :))

please help me :))

Thanks a lot,

regards
I am using Lenovo t410 2518-4ju.

best regards

I use a straight cable and have not had a problem bumping it loose, but then, I don't leave the drive connected all the time.

I have not even looked for a cable with a right-angle connector so I don't know if any company makes one.

Since you haven't received a response, I'm guessing that no other user here has had the issue.

Sorry
Gary A.

Did a quick search, nothing fruitful came up.

There are right-angle adapters for USB and HDMI plugs though.

Cheers.

Your only solution is to get a series 3 dock with built in esata.
The esata on the dock is located in the rear of the unit, making it impossible to ever knock loose.

omg,

Its strange :(

In case of using dock with esata - Is it possible to use both ports for two different disks? One in compuetr and one in dock?

What speed should I expect for normal port ( with one hdd connected to computer) usage?
I am using Lenovo t410 2518-4ju.

Yes you can use both, the esata on the dock is independant, even Laptops without esata will have access to the esata connection via the dock.
So you can transfer from esata on your laptop to esata on your dock.

Esata speeds depends on the disk you are using.
Normal HDD will max out at 80MB/S sustained transfer that the fastes 7200rpm can do.
SSD will get around 250MB/S sustained transfer on esata but you must be going from SSD to SSD.
SSD to HDD will again throttle down to aroung 80MB/S

Only way to use your esata to maximum potential is to transfer from SSD to SSD or from RAID to RAID.
Going from HDD to HDD or SSD to HDD or etc will not even come close to esatas max transfer rate.

Both your source drive and your destination drive must be fast for esata to give you good speeds.
