T410 sticky key - which keyboard FRU to spec for replacement

Hi Folks,

The "c" key on my keyboard is occassionally failing to register when i press it. Hence, I want to get a replacement keyboard from lenovo (i've already tried blowing on the keyboard, etc). Is there a particular FRU or something that I should specify when asking for a replacement? I know keyboards are a hotly-debated topic here, but strangely enough I only came up with a couple threads with "keyboard" in their titles...

thanks!

If you're happy with the keyboard you have now, than ask for that one. The FRU is stamped on the bottom of the keyboard, or you may be able to access the FRU with your machine type and serial number at the site below, but I am not sure if the keyboard will be listed.

Thanks Hunter. I'm fine with the one I have now, but I do wonder if there are "better" ones I should try to get a hold of. Any opinions?

Generally the most loved type of keyboard is an NMB. I have no idea if these are on the T410, but you can tell by tilting the keyboard to the side, if it has blue rubber matting under the keys it is an NMB. The other kinds are Chicony and Alps. Chicony are generally clackier and more cheap feeling, but some people prefer them over a good NMB. I do not know much about Alps as I have never had an Alps keyboard, but I believe they are somewhere in between.

If you give me your keyboard FRU I can try to help you find the manufacturer, you may be able to get the info with google, or it may be seen on the parts lookup page for your T410. (The link I gave you above)

I think the new generation of keyboards all have red domes.

No more blue coloring for NMB? That will make it awfully difficult to be sure what you are getting from eBay, etc.

thanks again hunter. The keyboard FRU reported for my system is:

Mfg part # FRU part # Description
45N2036 45N2071 KEYBOARD FRU

Took a quick look, but I didn't come up with an answer re: whether any t410's come with NMB's....

Any info you could help me with re: my current keyboard would be most appreciated!

thanks!

If you look here it would seem that your keyboard is either a Chicony or an Alps. If you are happy with it than ask for your current FRU. if you want to try an NMB, ask for 45N2211.

I have no idea how accurate that site is, but it has been referenced in other threads.

Finally got around to putting in for warranty replacement on this. Just like the other time I called them, they have no stock on the 45N2211. Anyone have suggestions for how I can get a hold of an NMB from warranty support?
