volume buttons not working on SL300

#1 Post by nmdial » Mon Mar 23, 2009 2:28 pm

Its not even been 15 days since I bought the laptop, the volume buttons on left side of the keyboard have stopped working. When I press those, nothing happens. No audio level indicator comes up on the display and there is no change in volume. I have already contacted the lenovo support but they couldn't help me. Also, I have already tried installing/uninstalling the hotkey driver in vain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A few other drivers to try reinstalling:
1. Lenovo Power Management driver (not Lenovo Power Manager)
3. Lenovo System Inteface Driver

And as 2. you may try reinstalling the OSD/hotkey driver in between. 1-2-3 seems to be the lucky order of installing those drivers...

Hope this helps, and btw welcome to our forum! :)

I tried your instructions but it did not help. In any case, I appreciate your help. Finally, I (and the lenovo support personnel) had to re-install the OS. It wasn't a big deal since my laptop was new, however, its gonna be very cumbersome and annoying for someone who has a lot of files on their notebook. We need to figure out an alternate solution.

The problem with reinstalling windows in such a case is that the issue may appear again... I hope you won´t experience this problem anymore. Just somewhat related hint: be careful when applying updates from Lenovo. Lenovo System Update is not a recommended tool for doing this.

I had a similar issue with the ThinkPad X230t convertible tablet, where the volume buttons would be disabled after installing the tablet rotation button drivers. Uninstalling the driver would restore functionality to the volume & mute buttons (microphone mute wasn't affected).
I was finally able to re-enable the volume buttons by stopping/disabling the Lenovo Hotkey Client Loader service. I'm not sure if this relates to the SL300, but it's worth a shot.
