Hinge broken?

#1 Post by TheTourist » Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:19 pm

I am posting a picture of the broken Thinkpad SL400. Someone please tell me what this part is called (a hinge or something else?) and the part number of the same.

Quality of Thinkpad SL400 is pathetic! Yea, I know it is cheap, but even laptops this cheap arent this bad. I own a Vostro too, no dead batteries, no hinges broken. :(

Your image does not work. What is the machine type/serial # from the bottom label on the machine.

Thanks a lot for the help, Harry. I see that they are available on ebay.in, however, I will check the availability with IBM/Lenovo here, compare prices and go ahead with the purchase as the machine is already out of warranty period.

Things have gotten complex. :(

I showed the hinge to a laptop repair shop here. At that time, the display was okay. He opened up the laptop and checked a few things to make sure that the issue was only with the hinge and nothing else is broken. He then diagnosed that the issue is only with the hinge and he will have to get them ordered. I asked him not to order them, so that I can look around in other shops to check the availability, prices.

Then I went back home and boom! The display is not working now. Images are very faint. I went back to the same shop telling him that he caused more issues than resolving any, and he said it is not his fault, and something else, other than hinges has also gone bad; probably cable or may be some card that he told me about.

Going to Delhi tomorrow to get the laptop fixed now. :( :(
