R500 experiences anyone?

#1 Post by andreas74 » Mon Aug 25, 2008 6:06 am

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had used an R500 yet?
Im interested in getting one , as a 'Desktop' home machine.
Am i right that this model - like the R61 - has a pcmcia type II card slot still? (afaics its an express / old typeII 'double' slot, right?).
Id also like to know how loud the fan noise is, on high cpu load.
Thanks

hmm, hopefully someone will chime in soon, or maybe it's just worth to spend the extra $70 and get a T500? I see the R500 weighs about half a pound more, but if that is about the only difference (between the t500 and r500 I am looking at) I can use $70 towards a dock.

Had an R500 273232G for a month now. It's like my old R60 buth wide screen and louder speakers (better placement). With the default instalation it was an OK machine. I reinstalled custom build of XP and it became the fastest laptop I've seen :) The time difference between new boot-up and wake up from hibernation is next to none! Impressive.
I also use it like desktop replacement and it's quiet more than enough for watching movies, even when on load.
It has more than 3:30 hours battery time with WiFi on and browsing. So if you havent picked up yours yet I recommend.
