R400 few questions about build quality
R400 few questions about build quality
Hi!
That's my first post here - be understanding
I bought a brand new R400 in April and one day I've noticed that something is wrong:
1. Right corner of palm rest is creaking. If there was a screw, everything would be fine.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39swk3XMHG0
I guess, that service can't repair it. What do you think about it?
2. Keyboard flex I have got also R61i and comparing keyboards, the one in R400 is worse.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SbR5yvgsTk
Should I call service in order to change my keyboard? Maybe construction of R400 causes flex and nothing can be done with it?
3. Hinges Aren't they too lose?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8gZiL716_4
4. Screen problem Processor: T6670, Graphic card: Intel 4500HD, WIN7.
When AC adapter is plugged - everything works perfectly. If I unplugged the sysytem, zoom in and start scrolling photos, on the screen you can see lines, which are very irritating. Tech. support told me yesterday, that is normal for these intel processors and it's connected with saving battery power (can't change it in BIOS).

Do you have the same issue?

Re: R400 few questions about build quality
1.) Download and review the HMM for palm rest removal. There is a clip at the front right corner that should hold the palm rest down . Remove the palm rest and inspect the area to make sure the clip is not broken. If it isn't, reinstall the palm rest per the HMM.

2.) I believe the R400 has the same keyboard as the T400. Keyboard flex was a known problem on early models of the T400. The fix was to install a T6X keyboard. At one time Lenovo was doing this for free, but I don't believe that is still the case. So, live with it or get a T6X keyboard.
3.) The hinge operation looks normal to me. If it holds the lid up don't worry about it. Does it look flimsy?...sure.
4.) Your video is the same for #3.

I gonna call tech support in Poland once again and ask them about keyboard case.Harryc wrote: 2.) I believe the R400 has the same keyboard as the T400. Re: R400 few questions about build quality
4) Disable the power saving features associated with being on battery in Power manager and in BIOS. Does that make a difference? In other words set everything to high performance profile. I am not suggesting this is a permanent solution, it's just a test to see which power management function may be causing this. Try to isolate the power saving settings that may be causing the issue, .e.g CPU performance only, or LCD dimming only, etc. Also you can try the Intel video driver vs. the Lenovo one. That may or may not mess with your OSD or other video driver functions, but again it's a test.
Re: R400 few questions about build quality
When it comes to the palm rest there is no visible improvement. There is also no clip at the front right corner (there will be a photo soon).
Screen problem:
Nothing seems to have changed. I did everything you listed above including BIOS settings (maximum performance, enabled/disabled SpeedStep Technology).
I don't know what's going on :/

Re: R400 few questions about build quality
Well, I have the motherboard and palmrest replaced. Everything works good.

Re: R400 few questions about build quality
It's not good to be back with the same problem once again.
Palmrest is creaking more and more. There is no need to push it hard to hear that annoying sound.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHBw_rxfTJ0
Should they replace the palmrest (again) or the chassis?
I have a question for you regarding on-site service. A year ago I called authorized service center in Poland, because I had a problem with: palmrest, motherboard and hinges. Guy came, but brought only a motherboard and palmrest to replace. He claimed that at one time he may swap/replace only two elements.
So, that procedure is valid worldwide or whether it depends on Lenovo Poland?

Re: R400 few questions about build quality
Hi,
Service in Poland can change only 2 elements in this same time. There is no problem with calling service again

Re: R400 few questions about build quality
Do you have mismatched RAM modules? A well known issue with that generation of Intel graphics is video issues when you have RAM modules of different capacity.
