W520 Video card upgradable?

#1 Post by Elbaz » Thu Jun 02, 2011 1:55 pm

I'm a little disappointed by the performance of the Nvidia 1000M, it works but frame rates are a little low. Is it possible to upgrade to the 2000M, is it worth it?

Dunno 'bout upgrades, but if you really get stuck, there's always the ViDock solution. Black box, housing an external video card of your choice, which plugs into the laptop via the ExpressCard slot.

Maybe the newer NVidia drivers will offer a performance increase?

Then there's always overclocking.

Out of curiosity, what applications are resulting in this subpar performance? Also, gaming or CAD programs? I may be getting a w520 for 3d CAD programs such as Rhino, 3DS Max, etc and want to know it can run these smoothly..

you can't. It is soldered in to the motherboard, and not replaceable.
