Hi All,

My A31p keeps freezing for the last week. When it happens, the machine needs hard restart. Then it may freeze again after, say 15min.
Today I took a photo of the error that popped up on the screen:

Is this a hardware or software problem and where should I start looking?

I will appreciate your comments.

If you have 2 sticks of memory, take 1 out. See if it still crashes. This is a start only!

Hi Ron,

Thank you for that.

Two tests completed on both memory sticks separately removed. No change, steel freezes.

Boot from a "live" Linux CD and see whether it freezes there.

What's the 7-character model number of that A31p, BTW? 265?-???

Hi,

It is 2653-R6U.

I am not sure if I have a Linux CD anywhere, but will have a look.

Thanks.

My guess would be:

- Memory (slot) issues. Try different memory chips, one at a time in each slot;
- CPU fan issues;
- Processor failure;
- System board issue (most likely)

I would open the unit up and clean out all the dust. Remove the cpu fan, unseat and reseat the processor. Clean off the old heatsink compound and apply some new compound. Put everything back together and keep your fingers crossed...
