Realblackstuff,
Well, you got me there. What I was really referring to was the laptop will not connect to the internet. I hooked it up to my working Comcast high speed cable from my desktop PC and the laptop could not connect to the internet. I do not know if I am missing drivers for it, or if there is something in the programming of the laptop just not allowing the connection.
I just replaced the hard drive with a bigger GB unit, but I don't know if that is part or all of the problem. I never tried to connect to the internet with the old drive in it.

Assuming you are runing XP:
Start
Control Panel
Double click system
Hardware
Device Manager
Network Adaptors

Tell us what you see there.

Ron
