A21p audio problem

#1 Post by ggiglio » Wed Jan 18, 2012 4:31 pm

Hi all,
I have changed the original travelstar 32 Gb hard drive in my thinkpad A21p with a more performant hitachi 80 Gb 5400 rpm 8 meg buffer hard drive.
Powering on the machine after the upgrade and no audio at all.
Switched back to the old drive, still no sound.
Operating System is win xp pro sp3, all drivers are correct, no yellow flag in hardware management.
Tried with sound recorder (under accessories menu): record is fine, sound graph even displayed. playback still mute.
Everything seems to work fine but sound has disappeared.
Any clue ? (other than buying a usb external audio card).
thanks in advance

Check all the Audio and System drivers on this webpage: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/researc ... IGR-47TUYM
Also, download and run the Diagnostics program from there.
It includes an Audio test.

Real thanks RealBlack :D ,
I'm gonna download and run the diags you said, but I think it's hopeless bacause I reinstalled the (unchanged) old hd (which worked fine btw) and no sound is coming from the speakers.
I did also a test booting from a live linux cd: no way.
But hope is hard to die, I'll let you know,
It's nice to know you 're still in the thinkpad arena
ciao

Bad news mate :(
did all the tests but everything semms to be ok, so I'm thinking it could be simply a loose connector at speaker side.
The problem now is: how can the darn thing be opened ?
Tried removing the bottom screws (bot long and short ones) and the 4 screws on the rear panel, removed hdd and cd-rom but seems something else is still holding all the pieces together.
I'm stuck....
