Hello all:
I recently got hooked on thinkpads after an IT friend of mine gave me a G40 and R40 for free. I have kinda fallen in love with them

and grabbed some other items, the one in question here is a R40 2681-Q6U with the coveted SXGA LCD and 2.4GHz CPU.
But... the ethernet port is dead. So, I have a parts R40 2681-KLU bottom with matching specs (ATI 7500 32MB, sec chip) coming to do a swap.
My question is- I have read that the computer may be "expecting" a certain list of components from an EEPROM file when it boots up. Am I going to have a problem after transferring the CPU to the new motherboard and rebuilding the laptop? I have been building desktops since '93 but am new to laptops.
P.S. Have a 40GB HDD with WinXP/SP3 and latest BIOS and ECP already on it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Pdubya
