Thinkpad R31 power issue

#1 Post by thinktwice » Sun Jul 01, 2012 12:39 pm

Hi,

Having an R31 which had poor contact where the power supply connects, I could start it by tickling the socket and this allowed me installing the lightweight Linux Zenwalk 7.0.

But the hardware issue with the power issue remained and now I cannot anymore power on the laptop, even when tickling the socket. As I have several power supplies, I'm sure the problem comes from the laptop.

I opened the enclosure, but it was impossible to unmount the yellow socket.

The battery diode does not lighten anymore when I connect the power supply.

When I press the "Power on" button, the laptop does not start, but this lightens the small diode at the top of the screen if either the power supply or the battery is present.

When pressing the "Power on" button a long time, the diode at the top of the screen remains lightened, and I have to move the battery away to shut it down.

Did someone already had this problem ?
