ThinkPad R60 - Which Video and Wireless Drivers?

#1 Post by BillG » Mon Oct 15, 2012 11:50 pm

I'm setting up a Thinkpad R60 from scratch. Installed Windows XP SP3, the R60 chipset, and Ethernet.

But I find that for the video drivers and the wireless, there are multiple driver options for XP.

The Lenovo website isn't helpful because it won't tell me in the details, even with the machine type (9444-A16). Windows Device Manager gives me big yellow question marks. Thinkpad Update doesn't even list drivers for video or wireless.

For video the driver matrix shows Intel and ATI. The machine type tells me Intel 950, but that isn't an Intel 950 option for the drivers. It lists "Intel (940GML, 945GM) Display Driver for Windows 2000 and XP".

For wireless the driver matrix shows Intel and IBM. The machine type says "Intel 802.11abg wireless", but there are four Intel wireless drivers.

I don't want to experiment because I've learned the hard way that leaving the wrong drivers on the system causes headaches.

Any ideas would be helpful!

I believe the 940GL and 945GM is referring to the chipset, not the GPU, which is the Intel 950. I have installed that driver on the R60 and it worked fine.

I would this version of the Intel driver. It's the newest and supports the 3945, which is most likely the card you have.

Thanks. Wish I could see what driver that is, but once again the Lenovo site won't load!

For Intel drivers I like to go directly to Intel's support site.
