The 3gb limit is a hardware issue, and there is no way to recognize more than that. IIRC any computer with that chipset (950?) is limited to 3gb, regardless of the manufacturer.
Why does Intel say the limit is 4GB in it spec sheet?

Maybe you should ask Intel that question, since none of the experiences shared here seem to convince you that 3GB is indeed a hardware limitation on this platform...

Okay - I believe you - it just the literature out there does not make any sense vs. reality!

I think I recall a workaround the problem of installing a non Lenovo branded modem sometime back but do you know where I can download it to avoid the 180? boot error in the bios. I did try to change modems and I recall this number error and then found a separate boot bios update from a third party that seem to take care of that problem.

Thanks for a your help. Just did not realize all the work you have to do to prepare for this upgrading of the notebook!

Here is another question concerning the difference between a 65W and 90W Z61t power supply.

Is it true that if you use a 90W without the battery it will run with high performance but if you use the 65W(which I have) without the battery; it will go to battery mode running?

Is there any downside in using a 90W power supply? Does it have to be OEM or will a compatible on due?

Thanks again.

I never quite understood the concept of running a laptop without the battery, unless one is in the stage of waiting for a replacement one...but that's me.

90W adapter will do fine but I always suggest obtaining a genuine Lenovo unit...

I think I will buy one of the double insulated versions of the PSU, so it prevents or minimises interference making its way onto my audio recordings. I wish to avoid using transformer isolators, although I suppose I could just run from the battery but constant plugging/unplugging of the PSU jack would damage the socket on my z61p.

Hopefully this is worth buying?

Does anyone know where the site is that offers a bios that takes away the safeguard that it has to have the Lenovo brand on wifi; so I can use any of the latest Intel Centrino mini PCI cards?

I had it once but I for some stupid reason overwrite it with the original bios.

From what I recall - and I might be wrong - these machines had a problem with recognizing newer Intel cards such as 4965AGN - there should be an old thread, possibly by underclocker, describing the issue.

On my PDA right now so I really can't look for it.

The Atheros-chipped Lenovo abgn card (42T0825) works without any problems, though...

Update my 4 cell battery to a 6 cell but it only charges to 80%. I am doing a battery reset on it(still going on) and wait to see it it helps bring it to 100% charge. I have never had a 6 cell; so it that normal; or is the battery defective?

Thanks.

I done with my upgrades to my Z61t.

I made theses upgrades:

1. T7600 processor - new
2. new fan
3. Samsung 840 Pro 128GB
4. New keyboard and palm rest.
5. Windows 8 Pro 32 bit
6. New Intel Centrino dual band wi fi card up to 300mhz.

Faster then most notebooks other then the MacBook Pro Retina series in regards to web surfing activities. Hard to believe it! I just love the speed. It is instantaneous in doing webpage renderings. Never thought that would occur.

I still figuring out Windows 8! I go to the desktop for work and I am figuring out the how to use the IE10 on the tile. It cannot have more windows nor tabs. Very hard to get out of it and move to another website.

I go to the title side for a challenge. It quite the puzzle; spend hours in trial and error exploring. Kind of fun if you do not have to learn it for a purpose.

I kind of like now - the title side - very entertaining to explore its features and new stuff.

Looking into upgrading my Thinkcentre M58P with an Duo Core 2 Quad processor.

Thanks for putting up with my questions and answering them even if they were dumb.

Waiting for the Windows Blue upgrade.

I waiting my time till Windows 8 - "Blue" comes out in the Summer. I think it will have the things back in that were in the Pre-edition; Startup menu; choice to boot to desktop or tiles along with other goodies I sure. Windows 8 is interesting; I fear it but the price was just good - and you cannot fear technology since that is always the future!

Thanks for all your help!
