R60 has no sound output / no alarm beeps

#1 Post by aPanzerIV » Fri Aug 16, 2013 6:17 am

I recently bought a R60 on ebay for 45 bones that was said to work perfectly. It came with a bit more than advertised(entire working laptop minus ac-adapter). I cannot get any sound in windows, I have tried installing the realtek audio codecs and the soundmax "audio features XI" avalible on the lenovo page. Plus, there is no beep when I unplug the laptop/low battery/whatnot. I do not get any sound from headphones either. Modem and power beeps are enabled in bios. Any help with this?

Boot from a "live" Linux CD and check whether you have sound there.

If not, it's a hardware problem.

Good luck.

Check the plug and cable from the front-speakers to the mobo connector.
It sits left/top of the RAM modules.
Is it plugged in? Maybe broken?

Our schools IT guy has a thinkpad and told me that the physical mute and volume buttons do not show on screen when you press them. I thought they didn't work but in fact it was just muted with that button.

They actually do show up on the screen if one has hotkey features installed.
