380Z AC adapter to power an A31p?
Hello TPF! Recently I have aquired an A31p from eBay sold by a forum member as my hoarding project.
This unit isn't in the greatest condition, but it has a UXGA screen and no keyboard shine!
Anyways, I just finish installing WinXP SP3 (Still timid about using Linux) and I've been using an AC Adapter from either a 380Z or T20, FRU 02k6814.
I've looked up the FRU and it is compatable with the regular A30 but not the 'P' model in certain sites.
I don't have the battery connected to the laptop, but everything seems fine.
At the Lenovo site it matches the input and output settings for the most part except it states in input "1.5/0.9 A" this AC adapter states "~1.2A-0.7A", my guess is that it would be slow to charge the battery or maybe not even at all while on. Am I in queue for a housefire with this thing?
At the moment of getting drivers and software for this big baby.

Re: 380Z AC adapter to power an A31p?
A31p requires a 72w (16v/4.5a) adapter. Anything else may overheat...

Re: 380Z AC adapter to power an A31p?
that is the mains input, as long as the output is as written on the laptop / lenovo site you'll be fine!
IBM Thinkpad A31 2.0GHz Pentium 4, 768MB RAM, 40GB HDD and a ATI 7500 16MB shimmed
Lenovo T420 4236-PA8: WiFi card replaced with a Broadcom one (fixes most DPC latency), 64GB Crucial M4 SSD added as OS drive, original HDD in a DVD to HDD caddy.

Re: 380Z AC adapter to power an A31p?
The linked FRU matches the 56W AC adapter....not something I'd use on an A31p for any other purpose apart from verifying that the laptop powers on, passes POST and enters BIOS.ganon11000 wrote:that is the mains input, as long as the output is as written on the laptop / lenovo site you'll be fine!
