Choices. New R61eF or my current T6160?

#1 Post by DRobinson » Thu Dec 19, 2013 10:09 am

This morning I will finish putting together a new upgraded R61e. It was a 7650-84U with pretty basic specs. I have put Middleton's on it, upgraded to 4GB PC6400, added a bluetooth module, and added a WUXGA screen from an HP Elitebook. I still have to remove a T9300 that is waisting it's life in a Dell laptop this morning as the final step.

My question is, since this is a pretty nice spec'd machine now, should I consider replacing my T6160 with it as my daily driver? I have the Meron/Intel GPU 4:3 T61 board living in a 14" T60 chassis with T9300/4GB/SXGA+ as my main machine now (The one in my sig line). I am quite fond of it. But, the WUXGA is a noticeably larger working area. I think the R61e board has native Penryn support.? If I do not make it mine, I will just find it another home. I seem to get attached to these things as I build them up. It is a little tough to let them go when it is time.

Which would you choose to have as a daily driver given the choice?

I won't contribute towards your topic's question, but may I ask if that panel swap worked out of the box? Did you use the original WXGA inverter and lcd cable? Thanks in advance!

I had to change the LCD cable per RBS's post here, but it worked without a hitch:

The HP display (matte) is a LP154WU1 TL C2. It has two tabs on the top of the panel, but the R61 lid is large and the tabs do not interfere. Well, one tab very slightly interferes, but you can not even see it once it is put together. I can see it, only because I know what I am looking for.

When I get it put back together I'll get some pics out there.
