R52: Updating BIOS and EC question, get rid of the beeps

#1 Post by burns334 » Wed Feb 26, 2014 12:51 pm

My R52 (184732U) is sitting at a bios version 1.08 and an embedded controller of version 1.01. I wanted to use Winphlash to update the bios but the literature says that bios 1.29 needs and embedded control of 1.05 or higher, so do I need to update the control first?

Always BIOS first, then ECP.

Can you use a usb zip drive instead of a high density diskette to make the updater? or is the diskette image the same as a usb image? See lenovo instructions below:

After you finish downloading the file, close all of your open applications.
Insert a high density floppy disk into the diskette drive.
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type in C:\filename.exe where filename is the name of the file you downloaded, and click OK
Follow the prompts on the screen to finish extracting the diskette image.

Why not just burn the ISO to CD-ROM? I'm pretty sure that was an option on these machines...

AKJ, I updated the bios to 1.29 without any problems and see that in the bios now but am having trouble with the EC update. I do not see an EC update that exists as a .iso so I executed 76hj06ud, the diskette version of 1.06 and built a diskette but this diskette will not boot. I went into set startup and picked legacy drive, I tried start from USD HDD but no way will this disk boot.

any ideas
