what is the best wireless card for a z60m?

#1 Post by 3h » Wed Mar 19, 2014 9:36 pm

I have a z60m with an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG card. Is there a better card that will work without BIOS modification?

I prefer IBM (Atheros-chipped) b/g II or a/b/g II cards in this generation of ThinkPads, but to each their own.

Thanks for your response. Would this be a good option then?:

Or would it be best to forget about the internal cards and go with something like this?:

What you have in the first link is the series I card from T42/p which will throw an error on Z60m. You need a card from T43/p, and the FRU usually starts with 27

Not keen on USB wireless adapters, but to each their own.

In general, I have found the Atheros based cards to be better at holding and finding a signal. With the WAP'S all Lynksys or Cisco based anyway. There are tons of Access Point builders out there so your mileage can vary. In my current generation of Z61's Im running Intel, because that is what they came with. Overall Im not unhappy, but they dont seem to lock on as strong. However I have crutch-ed that issue by using multiple WAP's on the acre or so of land I own. If you run more than 1 WAP, its kind of a mute point.
