Lenovo IBM ThinkPad - No disk in drive?

#1 Post by jmdraft » Fri Mar 21, 2014 9:19 am

I hope I’m in the right forum for Lenovo IBM ThinkPad Model#: 065746U
I have a disk in the drive but I always get “No disk in drive, please insert disk”. First, why do I always get this?
Second, I want to copy some pictures to the disk.
I see the word Burn above. Should I use this or is there some other problem?

You'd have to burn the images to the disk, so yes you should see that.
See if you can use the CD/DVD as a USB drive when it burns it for you, so that you can burn more pictures at a later time.

As the no disk in drive, OH! I had that problem too, I had DVD-RW disks I wanted to burn information onto but it wouldnt of worked.
Turns out my DVD drive didn't burn disks, and it wouldn't read a blank disk. I had tried 4 of them thinking it wasn't working.

A CD-RW should do the trick.

Sounds to me like a bad media drive...try cleaning the lens with a q-tip dipped in alcohol...might help.

It doesn't like DVDs. A bit of a screwball process but CD worked OK. I found a bunch of control panel options and maybe the answer is in one of them. Is there a way to attach screen shots here?

You can easily take out the CD-drive to see what it is.
It will say CD or DVD or DVD-CDRW or DVDRW-CDRW.
It even says what it is, printed on the front-panel of the drive.
What does yours say?

You can upload pictures to places like Google's Picasa, Photobucket, Flickr, Imgur, etc. and then post the links to them here.

Hmmmm... Maybe it is only a CD-RW and not a DVD drive.

No.

R60e shipped with either a DVD RW or a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo. CD-RW by itself was not an option.

A standalone CD-RW died with A31p/T30/R40 generation that sported UltraBay 2000 drives...once IBM went "slim" it was either a combo, standalone DVD or a DVD RW.

My computer displays the drive info. It says DVD/CD-RW Drive (D):
This is why I wanted to attach screenshots.
But this is not that important to me right now. My wife needed trip pictures to show a friend and I put them on a CD.

Curiously, it opens/plays DVDs, I just doesn't want to burn them. Maybe something to do with Saucey’s comment “it wouldn't read a blank disk.”.

Anyway, my wife has her pictures. I’ll worry about the DVD thing later if I need to do some sound/music.

Thanks all.

DVD/CD-RW means:
- DVD reader only
- CD reader/writer
Your drive can NOT write DVDs.
But it can burn pictures/sound onto a CD... (doesn't have to be a DVD if ~750MB or less data)
