SATA drive in A31

#1 Post by fasterbybike » Wed Apr 30, 2008 11:59 pm

With the current shortage of 7200 rpm PATA/IDE drives, I wondered if the following EBay offer is a typo or a real solution to allow a SATA drive to be fitted into the Ultrabay.

Has anyone got one of these to work ?
W520, X301, T500, (past X61( SXGA+),T42P,SL500, A31, R52, T42,X32(SXGA+), T40P,A31P, A21P, 770Z)

The description names the drive as Ultrabay Slim. The machines compatible with the Slim are:

T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p, T60, T60p, T61, T61p, Z60t, Z61t, Z61p, UltraBase X4, ThinkPad X4 Dock, UltraBase X6, X6 Tablet UltraBase

I am going to go out on a limb and say it'll only work in T43+. It won't even physically match the A31, which uses Ultrabay 2000/Plus.
X220/IPS, T60p/IPS
Nothing endures but change

Thanks qviri

I missed the "slim" looking merely at the model types, but you are correct in that a slim module will not fit into a 2000/plus slot. The vendor probably has no idea of what they are selling :o
Back to a 5400 drive then :(

Thanks - A good way of keeping performance up in these old beauties.

Yeah im gonna buy one and use it with the mtron 3000 16GB SSD (100/80MB/s REAL!) Disc - its cheap with 180 Euro.

Then im booting the laptop always from the ultrabay adapter and then i got perfect performance on OS.
Same time im replacing the internal 60GB (22-13MB/s!) Hd with the new 250GB IDE WD Disc (63-38 MB/s) which (i hope) i can set to sleep when not needed.

Should be perfect then.

Any idea of where one from the US might get one of those?
