Any 2.5" SATA drive will work. The only limit is your budget.

No, any BIOS version should be OK.

Just be careful to buy a hard drive which is 9.5mm high, some are bigger (12.5mm) and won't fit!

I've been able to make the 12.5mm 1Tb drives work in a Z61p ultrabay caddy/2nd drive. Little bit tight, but works fine.

I haven't tried one of these in the Z61p primary drive slot(I use SSD there), but if you have any extra space at all, it might be worth a try.

Last 1T drive I picked up was ~$90; not bad...

I probably formatted/setup the drive on a W700/Win7 box, so I don't know if there are limitations formatting a 1T drive on older/XP systems.

Not likely to work. Put the new drive in the laptop hard drive bay and attach the old drive via USB. Use an Acronis boot CD and clone the old to the new ...

If you buy a Seagate or WD hard drive, they've got free versions True Image that are downloadable via their websites. The Seagate Momentus XT might be worth a look. It's a platter drive with a 4GB flash drive attached. It can speed boot times and commonly used applications.

@liquid93:
Just wondering, are you the same as, or in cahoots with dream1649?

Exactly the same error message.
Exactly the same location (Jonesville, NC).
Coincidence???
