I'm trying to copy a large directory contain a few .iso and some other stuff to a flash drive. The total size of the directory to be copied is about 5.17GB and the destination flash drive is a 16GB (with 14.8GB true capacity). After about 221MB has been copied WinXP Pro is giving the message that the destination drive is full, please insert disk 2.

Why can't I copy the entire directory?

Edit: Never mind... It's the 4GB FAT32 file limitation, isn't it?

Been there. Done that.

I attempted to copy a video file that I created from Adobe Premiere onto a 16 GB Sandisk flashdrive.

I received the same error.

Yes, it is the 4GB FAT32 file size limitation.

Rather than attempting to format the flashdrive to NTFS, I purchased a USB HD enclosure.

Please let me know if you were able to successfully reformat your flashdrive to NTFS. I was afraid that I would corrupt (and render useless) a brand-new expensive 16GB flashdrive.

I changed it to exFAT format, and was able to copy the files. Might have tried NTFS first, but didn't have the tools handy, and since I had never used exFAT before, I kind of wanted to see how that would work out anyway.

Using "Disk Managment", under "Performance and Maintenance" in Control Panel in Windows XP?

or something else?

Yeah, just used the "format" option in WinXP. Had to install Update for Windows XP (KB955704) before it would work, though. Files copies to the flash drive just fine, and I can read them in Win7 or XP, but don't think I'll continue to use exFAT after this because of it's lack of cross platform support. Can't mount the drive in Linux and I often need to use files in both Windows and Linux, just didn't need to today.
