Gave my old Macbook new life with a Yosemite, 240GB Crucial SSD and 2x4GB DDR2 ram.

But tbh, I'm not all that satisfied. I'm keeping it for compatibility reasons, but I'm on the hunt for a 2010 Macbook Unibody. The last white Macbook basically.

Unnamed Mod: Not to be a jerk, but have you read the OP?
Cola wrote:Hi all

After having a similar thread running at another forum that I'm active on, I thought: Why not have one here as well.

This thread, is for those who want to show off their new stuff. It could be your new Thinkpad, your new car, your new haircut, even your new nephew if that's what you feel like posting.

Of course, used items you just got is good to post as well.

It's your own choice if you want to post pics or not, but it's more fun with pictures.

I haven't anything to post yet, but in a few days I will. I wont tell you what it is though. It's a surprise. :)

Go nuts!

This thread is actually meant for basically anything to socialize a bit more between members :) I think that Thinkpads of course should ALWAYS stay the central part of this forum, still other things should be fair enough to post, for a slight bit of variation. However if this is not liked among moderators, then I'm alright with the thread just being Thinkpads. Still beats having members creating a new thread every single time they acquire a new Thinkpad IMO.

Just bought myself a Nexus 5. It's been a while since I used an Android phone and I wanna try building my own Linux kernel for this one. And a Wahl hair clipper, because going out for haircuts is expensive and I always rock the buzzcut, easy to do it by myself anyway.

This unnamed mod has a point -- this thread is in the subforum titled "Pictures of your ThinkPad & desk setup"! I think the thread should be moved to the "Off-Topic Stuff" subforum.

Last week was by far the best "Black Week" ever and, needless to say, I bought lots of stuff:

The most exciting purchase, of a Dell P2815Q 28" 3840x2160 LCD monitor:
Image
It's my first 4K monitor. I was pleased to find out that both of my main desktops (HP 8300 Elite and Dell OptiPlex 9010) support the full 3840x2160 resolution via DisplayPort, and that my Sony Pro13 can also do so via HDMI. I am sticking with Windows' default scaling for now, although I have activated ClearType to help me see text better.

My first 21:9 monitor, the LG 25UM65-P 25" 2560x1080 LCD monitor:

A Dell OptiPlex 790 ultra small form factor desktop:

Finally, a Thinkpad T540p that I bought as a gift for someone else:
Image
This is the first post-X200s Thinkpad that I have bought. I won't write a full review, but will just say that I am glad I will NOT be keeping it.

One of my clients is a City Hall (to remain un-named for obvious reasons).

We have deployed about 75 of those OptiPlex SFF's. I love them. We got them with a base that attaches the LCD to the front and the whole machine can be transported via one handle on the back. This makes imaging, repairing, and deploying them a snap. I've always been a fan of Dell's Business line of machine. Now their consumer machines on the other hand.... :jhem:

The 28" 4K Dell monitor is at home, replacing a Dell U2711 monitor which I've moved to my lab.

The 25" 21:9 LG monitor is being used by a student in my lab.

The Dell USFF desktop is hooked up to my 32" HDTV at home for playing video files, and also non-Region 1 DVDs that my Blu-ray disc players can't play.

The T540p was given to one of my postdocs as a present, as soon as I had finished burning a set of recovery discs. I hated its clickpad so much that I couldn't wait to get rid of it! On the other hand, I was surprised that the trackpoint still felt easy to use even without dedicated buttons.
Temetka wrote:We have deployed about 75 of those OptiPlex SFF's. I love them.
This is called USFF. The SFF (Small Form Factor) ones are bigger and weigh roughly twice as much, 12 - 14 lbs versus 6 - 8 lbs.

You have fallen in love with many of your laptops. I can't say I have fallen in love with any desktops I've owned but this super cute USFF is pretty close. It can't serve as my primary computer though because it uses 2.5" laptop hard drives, which max out at 2TB. At home my primary computer is a Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF desktop, which has a 6TB 3.5" desktop hard drive.

W510. 1080 display. I was in the market for a larger display from my X200/201s, and the seller accepted my $350 offer, shipped. Fantastic machine, but I'm trying to find the right Windowing Environment that works with such a high resolution.

I also purchased this on the Black Friday sale. I am convinced BB10 is the best smartphone OS after having used everything else from Android to Asha to FirefoxOS to Jolla over the past couple of years. This phone is huge, but awesome. I've had all sorts of positive comments about it in public.

I have been intrigued by the Passport's hardware ever since it was announced, but wasn't keen on buying one until a couple days ago when I learned that it can run Amazon Appstore's Android apps! I type much faster and more accurately on mechanical keyboards than virtual ones, and the Passport is clearly the best keyboard-equipped smartphone right now. So I may upgrade to it someday.

You can also load a program called 'snap' that will give you access to the Google Play store.

I have used Android apps on the Z10 and Q10 and some apps are a little sluggish occasionally (although Netflix runs quite nicely), but the PassPort has better hardware and an updated OS with a new Android runtime, so you'll have to ask the resident PassPort owner how he finds it.

Android support is better on 10.3 than it was on my Q10. For example, I can run Firefox as my main browser with Adblock extensions installed, which wasn't possible before. Other Android apps which would crash on startup have no problem now. The whole process is more integrated...the OS knows what to do with the .apk and even scans it for malware before installing. If an application update is available, the OS knows to open the appropriate app store for the update (BlackBerry World, Amazon, and F-Droid). Conversely, if an Android app has a newer version in another app store, it is able to update regardless, without a duplicate entry. There used to be problems installing from Amazon which seem to have disappeared. I do not use SNAP since I'm able to find everything I need from the other three app stores.

Ok, so last week I got the latest addition to my Thinkpad collection. I already have one 701C, but I like to play around with it and it gets dragged around a bit, and that's not what you do to a collectible. So I wanted another 701C for the shelf. Condition 9.5/10 was a demand, but those are hard to find. Or so I thought. Through a random remark made in a PM a while ago, I found out that a forum member had this 701C, and that he considered selling it. So after a quick negotiation, it was purchased and shipped to Norway. A complete kit with floppy, CD-Rom, PCMCIA card for the CD-Rom, battery in a sleeve, etc. Really nice condition.

Image

No wear on the lid..

Image

..or the keys.

Image

So all in all a purchase I am very satisfied with.

A while ago, I got another fun little Thinkpad. A 560Z. After I installed Linux Antix, I found out that this laptop is very useful still. With a working battery and a WLAN card, I bought a Thinkpad sleeve for it, and actually brought it along one time when I traveled. Nobody really noticed it, except one guy on the train who stared quite a lot at my retro laptop. I assume the use of a CF card as HDD gives the good battery time.

Image

A 3COM XJack card, with retractable antenna. A great benefit, as the card can stay in even when the laptop is in it's sleeve.

I am particularly digging the 560Z and it's cute Xcom WLAN card.

I also really like the external CD-ROM on your 701C.

I bought my first ever 2-in-1 PC earlier this week! It's an HP Pavilion x2 10-k077nr:

Image

10.1" 1280x800 IPS touchscreen
Intel Atom Z3736F 1.33GHz
2GB DDR3 RAM
32GB eMMC internal storage
Windows 8.1 32bit
Full-sized USB port (on the tablet!)
MicroSD card reader
Micro HDMI output
HD web cam
802.11b/g/n
Bluetooth

Weights that I measured on a scientific balance: 1.34 lbs (tablet), 2.08 lbs (tablet + keyboard)

The material on the back of the tablet actually looks and feels business-grade, which is surprising for something from HP's Pavilion line, though the plastic bezel on the front is rather flimsy.

My most recent purchase: A31p 2653-R9G (once on the left) right next to his twin brother that I own for almost a year: A31p 2653-R3G
I've payed for this masterpiece ~~ 10$ and it came in a perfect NOS shape with unused battery and display - someone sold it as an damaged equipment without HDD caddy and power supply . Only problem I have to solve is discalibrated battery that shows 8 Wh and yet it can run for quite some time after reaching 0% charge level. Does anyone have an Idea how to fix it without replacing main battery ?

Nicely looking unit, I really do like this 1st-to-be Ultrabook. How is Windows 10 preview doing on it ? Can you post your experience in a separate topic on Windows 10 forums section? I've just installed latest build on my 14" 4:3 T61 and it seems that everything works out-of-box, only thing i haven't checked yet is WWAN MC8775.

EDIT: So far so good, I made my WWAN working with MWConn without any bigger problem, all i had to do was some tinkering with hotkey apps to power on my WWAN card. If anyone need some help just let me know ;-).
