Several recent eBay sales that went smoothly and in which the equipment worked correctly. Seller IDs, followed by auction title:

remisolya
INTEL MOBILE PIII 1.13 GHz SL5CK CPU

laptopassassin
IBM Travelstar T23 LCD Flex Cable
(have not idea why it's titled "Travelstar"; it's not a hard disk drive!)

recovnet
Panasonic UJ-840 DVD-RW/CD-RW
(seller has a 8208/99.6% f/b rating but examination shows mostly people who don't read the auction description or had communication problems.)

Sorry that I missed your post when it was first posted. Anyway, this high-end T40p was sold for $455 shipped and the seller got a positive feedback for it. That's by far the best price I have ever seen for such a nice T40p. Too bad you were not the winner!

I have the following problem with a Dell 600m laptop that I bought recently on eBay. The description said it had a 1.6GHz Pentium M processor, an SXGA screen, and the laptop was "guaranteed to work perfectly". However, it turned out to be 1.5GHz, an XGA screen, and the laptop couldn't always power up. I would like to get a partial refund, so I emailed the seller but he never responded. Do you know whether filing a complaint to PayPal or eBay would help me get some money back? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Since I just had a better-than-average experience with an eBay seller, I'd thought I'd post this...

Saw an auction for a lot of 4 T2x batteries listed as 90% charge at a Buy-it-Now price of $85 (plus shipping of $14), along with "Make an Offer". I low-balled and submitted an offer of $56, plus the $14 shipping for a total of $70, with the stipulation that I would be able to pick them up (they are only several miles off my commute to work). They counter-offered at $72 (but did not mention anything about their stated, non-negotiable shipping rate of $14, even though I would be picking up in person). So, at $86, worst case to me, I figured that was a pretty good deal for 4 batteries so I accepted the counter-offer.

Went there today on my way in to work and met Tony the owner (?) and he hand-picked four batteries (each marked with the cycle count and watt-hour capacity) that had the lowest cycle counts. I plugged them into a T23 that I brought along and verified that they all were marked as stated. I also e-mailed him earlier about buying a couple of T2x keyboards, so he brought out about seven of them for me to inspect. I bought two keyboards after checking them out with the keyboard and mouse diagnostics in a bootable CD of PC Doctor. Grand total for the 4 batteries and two keyboards: $90, plus $7.43 tax. It turned out that he billed me my original offer of $70 for the batteries and $10 for each keyboard, even though he lists the keyboards on eBay for about $13, plus $8 shipping.

The eBay ID of this seller is: getgoingstores
They also use another ID: xreplay

Both IDs are used to sell IBM Thinkpad equipment. I believe that another poster (Purcy) has also dealt with getgoingstores in this thread:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 685#228685

And to also clarify, I am not affiliated with this seller in any way. If you are in the market for Thinkpad or other laptop parts, check out both of the eBay IDs.

Ray, you just found one of my favorite sellers :). Four Tecras, a T21 and T41 already from him. The T41 had a flaky dvd-cdrw combo but he replaced it promptly upon notification, no extra cost. I see that the sellers you listed earlier are in my list too, and sooner or later we'll bump into each other at eBay . If tlcfman snipes you, that would be me 8). Not too long ago rogerky had loads of your favorite 600e in lots of 2, 3, and 4.

Happy holidays to All!

Wow - that's just astounding! Prices in Australia haven't come down that much, but I can't imagine it'd be too far off.

Whenever I see a nice Thinkpad with an unusually low (though still legitimate-looking) BIN price, I will mention it here. So, be sure to check this thread whenever it's bumped by me!

Warning Ebay Seller skeez3535

#109 Post by slackjeep » Thu Mar 15, 2007 4:30 pm

I purchased a T41 from this who advertised that it came with a wireless a/b/g card. The laptop showed up with a 802.11b card only. I sent him email and he immediately sent me a b/g card. Not the a/b/g card. I sent him another email asking him to send me the correct card or refund me money so I can get the correct card. No response. 2nd email with deadline to respond. Nothing.

I left him neg feedback. 2 days later he leaves me negative feedback.

Just wanted to warn people.

I had 100% positive feedback and this guy just blew my rating. Really irritates me!

You should contact him again and work things out -- and then do a mutual retraction of the negative feedback, if that's what you want.

It looks like he is the type of seller to persue the negative retraction route. Checking his neutral/negative history, I find that you are probably the buyer, "q.... 'n s....". His past retractions number 13. Most of those retractions are because the buyer did not respond to the mediation request. If you do ignore that request what happens is his negative mark gets erased from his profile, while the one he gave you remains. Make sure you watch for that request.

It looks like you had the laptop about 2 weeks before leaving the negative. That might have been too early. You generally have 90 days in which to leave feedback.

Yes, that is me.

I just filed a claim with paypal so we'll see what happens. He was very quick to respond at first and then just disappeared when I pressed that he send me the correct card.

If he wants to send me the card he advertised or refund partial money, I'll be happy to remove his negative.

Believe me, I will be responding to any email with regards to this guy.

Another eBay seller that I would like to mention... and NOT in a good light either... I have NOT completed any transactions with this seller and I probably won't based upon these exchanges, unless a third message (which I'm contemplating sending) clears things up.

The system in question is being advertised as for repair or parts, with the LCD not working but apparently the external video is. I wanted to know the last three characters of the type number for obvious (to me) reasons; that will tend to confirm what the seller says he has. Only one picture is in the auction, from which the only thing I can determine is that it's a T2x system.
I wrote:Hi! Can you tell me the last three characters of the type number from the bottom of the system (2647-xxx or 2648-xxx)? Also, is there any visible damage to the LCD? Thanks!
aacanvasstudio wrote:2647, lcd look nice but the laptop did show only show bios on external thanks for question
Okay, seeing how my type # question wasn't answered, I tried a second time:
I wrote:Thanks for the earlier reply, but I was asking for the last three characters on the type number. This information can be used to verify what the original options that were installed by the factory. If the label is missing, then the information can be found in BIOS on the "System-unit serial number" line. Thanks!
and the response... (no editing of his message has been made)
aacanvasstudio wrote:okay here 2 type of number #1 is system unite serial number K106K090VYN and bios version 1.11 KZET30WW PLEASE DO NOT ASKED ANY MORE NUMBER THAT ALL I CAN GET FROM THIS LAPTOP THANKS FOR INTERESTED
As it appears that English is his second language and he's got a short fuse, I don't know if it will do any good to persue my line of questioning. But that hasn't stopped me before  .

If I do decide to submit a third question, I'll edit this post so everything's in one place.

edit: I'll have to take that second statement back... I HAVE had one previous transaction with this seller  . The item was shipped out quickly but it was not packed well and may have been damaged slightly in transit. It was a T23 2647-HNU with a known busted LCD and when I opened the USPS Flat Rate box ($8.10 real cost; charged $20), there was no packing material and a couple of small pieces of plastic fell out. I wasn't too concerned since this is what it looked like:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0081761386

Which is all that much more confusing since I had asked him in this auction what the type # was. Seeing how he replied it was an HNU, that's what made me interested enough to spend $25 on it.

I would advise NOT buying batteries from batteryguys-usa, aka Key Battery in San Clemente, CA.
They took my money and did not send a battery for my T30, tried to call and email them a half dozen times without a single response.
I'm not a super experienced eBayer, but it would appear to me that these guys do just enough legitimate transactions to keep a Power Seller rating. Buyers they rip off and give them a negative rating, get an automated negative rating in return. That's lame.
I think I've had enough of eBay.

X31 from bapman007 - everything OK

#119 Post by lophiomys » Mon May 21, 2007 4:25 am

Had a mostly good experience pruchasing a
Thinkpad X31 2672-JBU eBay ArtNo 250108453396
from bapman007.
The machine was OK as described very well by bapman007,
but showed minor defects in the end:
- sometimes it hangs on shutdown, less frequent since upgrading to newest BIOS, Beep Code is 4x 4 beeps.
- front right notch for ultra base broken
- upper left rubber foot on base missing
- DVD ROM inside X3 Ultrabase does not read CDs, which renders it useless.
I'm currently trying to negotiate a partial refund, but got no answer so far.
[Update 1] bapman007 replyed with some delay that the DVD ROM issue could
be a loose contact with the Ultrabase, ... and so it is. Reading CDs works
after reseating the X31 inside the Ultrabase. [/Update 1]
