I don't think it is an optimal solution either, however - what it does confirm is that they are prepared to look into all options that are available. Which is good.

Of course I would prefer the brand new item, which is what I paid for and should get. I'll know by 3pm GMT.

when they call you with the info about the possible new maschine you should ask them for the serial number, so you can check online with IBM how much warranty is given to/left on that maschine.

One thing is definitely for sure that the phone conversation has eased my mind a great deal at the moment, so much so I finished completing the outline for my new picture. Again two characters from Neon Genesis Evangelion (those DVDs will definitely be in my carry case, Lorre is intrigued to see this seminal series I have been on about to her).

I still need to perfect the outline of Shinji on Photoshop before I start the mammoth task of painstakingly colouring the picture. As you can see, this is a large image to work on (and the link shows you a 33% sized version!! not the 100% sized photoshop original) and on XGA it's a bit of a task indeed.

The clever bit about this?

This is actually four pieces of A4 joined up (I only have an A4 scanner), 2 were 2 halves of Shinji (left) and 2 halves were Asuka (right). That took quite some time to match the scale of the two (on paper) since each quarter was drawn seperately and then joined and re-edited where need be in Photoshop.

This is the result of probably about 12 hours work so far, heaven knows how long it will take to colour, I'm just glad I am able to concentrate on what I want to again, as I could not concentrate at all last night.

Will let you know what the final coloured version comes out like. (The outline is only ever an approximation)

The difference colouring makes is phenomenal. (And any ink outline has to be the bare minimum of detail.)

Oh and the touching up of the ink outline in Photoshop was done using the T23's trackpoint. It's things like the mouse control that makes other laptops from all my experience so crap, yet something often overlooked like this is a major reason for me in using ThinkPads.

I hate to play devils advocate here, but I've sold, and bought on ebay - and really in this climate when things get too complicated and sellers start laying out all these alternate plans, it does make u as a seller get wary. I can see why they did what they did (better safe than sorry), but it was still a rotten thing to do. I dunno how much communication went on in the beginning but I'm glad it seems like the issue is being taken care of. I know I hate buying things that you really really want only to get skunked on it.

I noticed something in the original auction listing
It states it has windows XP home in one part then PRO in another also states that it has a 6 cell battery and then lower in the IBM description states it has a 9 cell battery.
So if it supposedly new those 2 things i would defianatly look for when you get it.

So PM Distributors Inc. phoned as they said they would do, that is good, the end result is in my eyes, a satisfactory one. I have made some compromises as have they, so here's the bottom line.

They are shipping me a T41 (yes, not a T40 brand new, 512MB RAM, 40GB 5400RPM, Windows XP Professional (legal media and license), gigabit ethernet capable, the compromises on my part have been:

- Pentium-m 1.4GHz instead of 1.5GHz
- XGA instead of SXGA.

What?!!! You say... Well they made some compromises too..

- One, getting a T41 instead of T40, slighly faster memory bus
- Free Docking Station II thrown in
- DVD Writer module thrown in.

In all, an amicable resolution and I'll get a 17" IBM monitor for £30-40 here in the UK to use 1280x1024 on that. Which is fine by me (Photoshop and my website being the sole reason why SXGA would have been really nice indeed). I kinda wrangled those two latter items out of them, hehehehe.

It is a brand new unit, sealed from IBM, 3 years IBM warranty. (The DVD Writer module and port replicator I will have to put in myself, as they don't want to break the seal). The unit serial number is due to be sent to me to prove its genuine nature and it will be shipped tomorrow when the one that they had sent out (the 2373XXG) has been recalled and should arrive in the depot.

The serial number could not be got now as they claimed to have 2-300 laptops in their inventory and it was not a five minute job to locate this particular one.

All in all, I am feeling much much better yay, got a T41 instead of a T40, thats cool, if its only for 333MHz bus vs. 266MHz.

Well I have never had SXGA+ on a laptop, maximum of XGA (in fact since I had a 765L, 570, 570E, T21 and presently T23). It's fine enough, however for photoshop work I can use the docking station and a 17" monitor.

Picked one up for £25, does 1280x1024 at 85Hz and 1600x1200 (not usable I shall imagine but I'll see, but good for overall view) at 67Hz, .26mm dot pitch or whatever - good bargain, and that eases the blow of the XGA screen on this T41. The docking station will be made good use of, and I shall set it all up so I can dock up and use the larger screen when I choose to

Anyway beer sounds a darn fine idea, mine's a pint of Stella.
