"NEW" IBM Thinkpad 701C Butterfly with 10th Gen Intel Core i3.

#1 Post by KingDawnBrave » Tue Oct 17, 2023 1:25 am

The IBM Thinkpad 701C butterfly keyboard laptop is a very classic model, and many IBM fans still love it.
However, much of the antique stock that remained was damaged. It is very difficult and expensive to buy a 701C that looks and functions well.
In China, a user of 51 Forum (ID: yeat) designed and manufactured this replica 701C, allowing this model to regain the feelings of the past. Additionally, another user (ID:zkr) commented and filmed this video.
IBM fans are welcome to communicate. Please indicate the source when reprinting the video.
Thank you!

Those overly-complicated [img] links are not working.

Yes, sorry. The forum software does not handle huge images well, and Reddit preview does not seem flexible enough in terms of size, so I just converted the images into links.

This is a DIY product and cannot be produced in large quantities. It is only for hobbies. :D

Thanks for sharing - I opened the links fine. A really interesting labour of love right there. One day replicas will exist off the shelf...

Can I ask, how did you adapt the stock keyboard to work using USB?

What LCD did you buy that matches the dimensions and depth of the lid?

Thanks!

Encode through the mapping keyboard and convert it to USB with the main control. The screen is an iPad 10.2 9th generation screen. :D

Wow - how did you do that? The keyboard adaptor couldn't adapt it, right?

The guy who's working on the Framework 701C used a Teensy 3.6 with custom QMK firmware.
