PC110 Restoration stuff [HUGE PICS]

#1 Post by solidpro » Wed Mar 06, 2024 1:10 pm

I decided to spend another bunch of hours-i'll-never-get-back improving my ramshackle collection of PC110 machines, improving, documenting, uploading and sharing. It's not really the 'finished article' but it's passable. I'll probably keep adding to it when things pop into my head.

The article is on my 'website' here: http://ret.rocks/index.php/one-off-work ... -top-pc110

The article contains some modern day things I've learned about the PC110 - as lots of info is in pieces all over the internet, covering a 25+ year timespan. I've decided to put most of the files, images and so on of what I've used to get mine working better in the article for direct download. This will help others over the next 25 years.

I decided to take some inspired pics which some of you might find interesting, which are not on the link above.

Here is a collection of PC110s in two different lifestyle choices with it's ultraportable siblings; back to front, left to right is a 12.1" IBM 800x600 flatpanel TFT screen, a RIOS IBM Thinkpad 235 "Chandra" (not-a-real-thinkpad-but-a-really-cool-one-nevertheless), an IBM Thinkpad 701c "Butterfly", An IBM Thinkpad iSeries/s30 (cut off the right side!), then at the front-left is a docked PC110 running with floppy, mouse, external display, then front-right is a TFT-upgraded PC110.

Here is a direct size comparison between the 235, the 701c and the PC110:

Here is a high-contrast screen comparison between one of mine which had serious vinegar syndrome and leaking caps - so the original DSTN display on the left is using off-the-shelf polarisers which do not to colour reproduction very well - but it is usable. The machine on the right is using the new TFT upgrade kit:

Finally we have a 'closed' size comparison between a 235, 701c, s30 and PC110:

Added "l" before .jpeg --> 5KawBOSl.jpeg

Added "m" before .jpeg --> 5KawBOSm.jpeg

The above shows some (almost unknown) options on Imgur.
Just give you an idea of what's available and something to keep in mind.
There might be more of these, and they work differently on different size pictures.
Kind regards,
RBS

FORUM warning:
Pictures are WAY too big, but for ONLY this once we'll accept your HUGE pics.
Please pay attention!

I'm sorry if the pics are big but they're only 1998 'big'. I have seen a few use the [LARGE PHOTOS] subject warning as a passable way to upload larger style pictures so I hope this is acceptable. Simple cold links won't do them justice.

That's quite the collection. If you wish to reduce the footprint, using a third party hosting site, like postimage.org, to offer up thumbnails that anyone who wants see can click on.
