Are the 390 and 560 LIDS for sale? I'm looking for the TFT panels cuz both my 390 & 560 have dead pixels.
And, please do let me know if you have (more) Transnote, so sad to hear it was sold...

Would a 535X lid fit on a 535E? Coincidentally I have acquired one ;-)

From memory the 535X screen and lid are a straight swap. Also from distant memory, everything else inside is different, mainly due to the different audio daughterboards, different DC/DC boards having different rear connectors and the mainboards have different ways of dealing with heat from different CPUs.

But I think any 535 lid and screen can be attached to any 535. I think at one point I accidentally put a 535X lid on a 535 or 535E, for example, and then switched the labels around (because I think the TFT was an option on the E but default on the X....

Good to know. Do you want to PM me a price for the 535 lid/screen?

Thanks

Hi Solidpro,

Picked up a 535 in Akihaba, Tokyo a few days ago. It's the original 535, not E or X.
someone already asked for one of your screens .. so I'll show my interest as well :D what do you want for one?

Mine has, what I assume is severe case of vinegar screen. I'm actually unsure - it almost looks burned, and the CCFL is long dead.
But.. at least I can make out a flapping duck cursor in the corner of the screen when turning it on, so the laptop lives and goes to BIOS :D .. have yet to test further as I just arrived home.

Best,
Enig

Let me test the two lids in the next few days and report back here with photos. Obviously if they're working, they're a lot more useful than not!

Hi Solidpro,
Big thanks from me. I was considering I'd simply have to take to take a chance on this one.
Edit: and take your time.

Will have time to dig into mine tonight, so will likely post an update on my findings :)

Best,
Peter

Got the 535 up and running.
Did not have a lot of time for it yet, and most of that time was spent getting it to recognize any sort of HDD.

Finally got it up with either a 512MB CF card and now a Hitachi 40GB limited to 810MB with Seatools - not sure if was the drive or the size that did the trick.
Installed Win95 OSR2. Drivers are for next time.

Btw, does this machine have sound? and if so what is it?
the BIOS (under test) indicates the option but it's greyed out.

Mine had a hibernation/standby battery under the palmrest - I removed it.

Hi

The 535 definitely has sound. There is a daughterboard at the back on the left which has all the audio chips on it. You have to remove it to remove the CPU heatsink or the DC/DC board....

Ok so both of my 535X lids have been tested and both LCDs work perfectly:

I've labelled them 1 and 2 as I tested them. Both have rough lids but all 535 lids are nowadays - I use eucalyptus oil to take the very top coat off which tends to leave a very nice satin finish underneath.

I'm not sure what to ask as most 535 units now have vinegar syndrome, so the screens are hard to get. Also these are both the nicer TFT screens. £75 each? I think also, if I ever feel the need to refurb another 535, the main thing I'll need is a screen so it's probably the most valuable 535 spare I have....
