600e cpu speeds

#1 Post by gapsta » Thu Apr 29, 2004 5:56 pm

First of all id like to say hi to everyone as at last ive found aTP forum.
Now down to buisness, ive recently bought a thinkpad 600e which came pre installed with windows Me during the short time i used ME i managed to turn up the CPU from 366 mhz to 397mhz just as a test and forgot about it. I then proceeded to format the harddrive and converted it to NTFS file system and install windows XP PRO and then a few days later flashed the bios to the most recent version and tweaked XP to run slightly faster.
My problem is that i cant remember how to turn the CPU back down to 366 mhz or to the lower setting
The main reson id like to turn the CPU down again is im am taking up work in spain very soon and am worried about the machine overheating etc.....any help on this matter would be more than appreciated ......thanks gapsta.

I'm not aware of any way to increse the speed of the CPU in the 600E. The 366 PII is clock locked via the multplier, as is the FSB at 66MHz. I suspect ME was confused when it reported 400MHZ! (Not uncommon for ME to be confused!)

no mate im now running XP PRO and have a P2 400mhz CPU . XP PRO reports in my computer properties that the CPU is 397mhz. when i used whatever i used to adjust the CPU i had an option of 366mhz,397mhz and a very low setting. thanks for that info anyway as it backs up the other things ive heard about ME

I'm afraid I'm at a complete loss as to what you're attempting to do. The 2645-4BU IS a PII 400MHz machine and there's no way to throttle the processor short of using some software hack.

Perhaps he's referring to a utility that locks the CPU at max speed even when the laptop is on battery only?
