THnkpad 310ED and dialup

#1 Post by RichardC » Thu Feb 04, 2010 10:57 pm

We want to get on the Internet thru a dial-up connection.

(FIrst we have to install a phone jack in the room. No simple matter, as this is a nursing home, and the bills will be paid by someone outside the nursing home.)

THen how to link up the 310 ED to the phone jack? In our Apple MacBook at home it is a simple matter to buy a little 56K modem and plug it into the USB port on one end and into the phone jack on the other.

Will this work with the Thinkpad?

Since the 310ED has (2) Type II CardBus slots, the easiest solution for a modem would be to buy a cardbus PCMCIA 56K modem card on EBay or where ever.
The issue is going to be drivers. What OS is running on this 310ED...Win98?

Thanks for your answer. I don't know what type of Windows. The nursing home won't answer now - they're having a Superbowl party, I think.

Will let you know tomorrow.

I will offer a modem, I'll pay shipping and make sure you have a drivers disk or CD, just shoot me a PM when you find out what OS and an address. BTW no charge.
It will be a Xircom 56k 10/100 ethernet combo (now Intel owns them) so drivers are easy to find at Intel.com as well. I have not owned a 310 in many many many years (they were new when I had one LOL) That does have two PCMCIA slots correct? becasue this is a full hight modem and will take up both slots.
