Battery refill? (Transnote, but also other TP's)

#1 Post by emeu1 » Thu Sep 09, 2010 1:51 am

Hello,

the battery in my Transnote is almost completely dead. Because I use the Transnote during meetings, I'm looking for a new one. I bought one (new old stock). However, as already discussed on this and other forums, new old stock batteries are often degraded and so was the new one I bought. Fortunately for me, the seller took the battery back and I got a full refund :D

So I was looking for another solution and found this company:

http://www.batteryrefill.com/laptops/ib ... note.phtml

Has anyone ever had the battery of his/her Thinkpad refilled by this company?
If yes, where you satisfied?
Did the battery still fit firmly (the company says on it's website that minor blemishes will remain after the refill).
What was the livetime of the refilled battery?
Kind regards,

Erik

I had considered them a while back, but in doing a Google search I found many complaints about them so I declined. Hopefully their service has improved since then.

I used to use them for refilling batteries for my Thinkpad 600's. I probably did 3 or 4 batteries. Generally, I thought they were pretty good as long as you didn't care too much about perfect aesthetics of parts of your machine that are generally hidden from view. In my case, the refilled batteries lasted as long or longer than original IBM batteries, and they were definitely higher capacity and so initially had a longer battery life too. I never had issues with batteries fitting in the slots after being refilled, but once I had a problem where the casing started to come apart where they had glued it. Once, they also took one battery back and replaced it when I ran into a problem. My experience dates to 4-5 years ago, however, and I recall that there were issues with some people getting prompt responses/mailings from them following that. I am not sure if those issues were resolved in subsequent years.

In the case of a 600X with a SpeedStep PIII 650+ CPU, refilling an original IBM battery is required instead of using a generic replacement if you want to get a properly working SpeedStep system under Windows -- the original IBM circuitry is somehow necessary to achieve max speed. I have not heard of this specific SpeedStep quirk affecting any other Thinkpads.
