Will T61 ultrabay fit the Edge E540
I'm buying a new ThinkPad - E540 and I'm wondering if I can transfer the old t61 hdd caddy to the new machine?
here's the official e540 caddy
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SATA-2nd-Hard-D ... 27dca99ca4
and here's the t61 one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SATA-2nd-HDD-Ca ... 2a237363bb
they both look identical, they are both 9.5mm thick..

Re: Will T61 ultrabay fit the Edge E540
Hi Dawnbreaker. Sorry but I am 99.9% sure it will not. The T61 has an IDE type of connection in the ultrabay while the E540 looks like it is a SATA connection. I also speak from experience as I mistakenly tried to put my T500 DVDRW drive (is a SATA connection) into my T61 and it would not fit. The connections are totally different.

No it will not fit.
The E540 caddy itself has a 2-part SATA connector from caddy to motherboard.

The T6x has a different 1-part flat connector from caddy to motherboard.

Re: Will T61 ultrabay fit the Edge E540
Thanks for your kind responses guys - much appreciated.
I'm going for the E540 caddy then. And another question pops out - will adding a SSD in the main bay and moving the rotating hdd in the ultrabay void the warranty?

Re: Will T61 ultrabay fit the Edge E540
Swapping the hdd and ssd between the ultrabay and main caddy will not void the warranty since they are CRU (consumer replaceable units).
