So I ordered one of the new Edge e420s' on 3/28 and it's not supposed to ship until 4/6. Is it normal for Lenovo to take this long to ship a laptop? Just curious since this laptop supposedly was part of the Intel Sandybridge problem to begin with. Also I've been unable to find any reviews of this laptop anywhere and was wondering if anyone has any experience with returning a laptop to Lenovo because the product didn't live up to expectations. Is it easy or is it a big hassle? Thanks for any info anyone has.

Was this a pre-configured or CTO model? If it was CTO week or so doesn't seem unreasonable since they're building your laptop. Unless there's something defective with your machine you'll probably have to pay the 15% restocking fee should you decide to return it.

I did get a CTO model. However the thing that worries me now is that they aren't even taking orders for this model on the Lenovo website anymore. It just says that the E420s is coming soon. So now I'm worried that I won't be getting my laptop this week anyway.

Even if it ships on the sixth, it's still got to come over from China and clear customs. I think this week might be pushing it.

Woke up this morning and checked the status of my order. It now states,

"If no ship date is given above, there may be an issue with your order. If you would like more information on the status, please call 866-426-0013."

And of course my ship date has been removed. I tried calling the number and it says that "due to circumstances beyond our control our call center is temporarily unavailable." I'm sorry but this is some terrible customer service from Lenovo. There is obviously something going on with this model but yet they don't bother to send out an e-mail to let their customers know what is going on.

the e420s that were/are on the website since a few days ago do not have the recall chips. The E420s with switchable graphics will be for sale on the website in 2 weeks (per lenovo customer sales rep), also e420 and e520 about the same time.

hopefully she speaks the truth.

as far as i know the sandy bridge cpus and boards with recalls occured back in january and any reputable company selling items using 'gen 2' items is selling the new updated ones.

I think the only place you can find the recalled versions for sale are the comps like the hp envy 15 which came out around that time and are for sale on websites like ebay, but those were pulled from hp's website right away.

What is this suppose to mean? Just general information? Did they just run out of new chips and only had the old ones left? I would assume that Lenovo wouldn't ship with bad chipset that were detected a few months ago.


I got a hold of someone from Sales and he told me that the E420s should be back up for sale tomorrow and that they are simply having some website troubles.

basically any manufacturers website that you go to (sony,hp,lenovo etc) if it says '2nd gen' i3,i5,i7 its of the newer chips without the problems. Cant say for any resellers but from the manufacturers they are definetley not selling recall chips. That happened months ago and was caught rather quickly.

Well now Lenovo has changed their minds again and are telling me that it won't ship till the week of April 20th. Just yesterday I was told that it would ship by April 8th. This is the last time I place an order directly through Lenovo as their customer service is horrible. No one seems to know why the delay or when it will actually ship out. I would hold off ordering this model if you want it anytime soon.

Glad you finally got someone who could help you pyther. When I tried to cancel my order the lady kept trying to get me off the phone by telling me she'd check on it and call me back later. Sorry, I fell for that trick yesterday but not today. Order canceled and then I ordered the same one I wanted from Provantage and got it for less overall since there was no taxes on it. And they are shipping it today. Provantage FTW!

Cool. I don't blame you. I was tempted to cancel, but I need a wifi card with dual radio 2.4/5GHz which the preconfigured option doesn't have.

I wouldn't be surprised if you get your laptop before me!

I am jealous that they let you order yesterday. Lenovo just told me they would not be available again until the 22nd. Hopefully the upgraded features are available. I want the Dolby Sound...

Hi guys. Let me share my experience.
I placed the order for an E420s (which will be my first Lenovo ever ) on April 1, using a 10% coupon. "Shiping expected April 13".

My order status is still stuck as "in process". So, seeing that it's not available anymore online, I got worried and entered the chat-support. A guy with some Indian name, looked up my order, and said that there was no problem and it will be shipped "the week of April 13".

Still,what I hear from pyther and jhice is rather discouraging... Any suggestions for alternative source of E420s?

Got some bad news for you. Since I was buying this laptop through work I had direct dealings with a Lenovo sales agent (he was out of town the last few days). My laptop, which I ordered on March 28th, was expected to ship on April 7th. Well the 7th (yesterday) came and went without any followup. I called the "support" number today and was told it wouldn't ship until the 22nd. I got on the phone with my rep and he confirmed that the laptop wouldn't ship until the 22nd.

I cancelled the order with Lenovo and ended up buying it through CDW. Luckily they had a few left in stock at their district warehouse.

This was also my/work's first order with Lenovo. We own probably have over 100 of their laptops, though we always buy from resellers since we can usually get a better price (orders of +20). I have been extremely disappointed. I wouldn't care if they said "Look we screwed up. we won't ship the laptops till the 22nd...", but instead was "no, no, it will ship this week" (note: this was not my rep, as he was out of town; the general support team).

The laptop was nearly identical except now I'll have bluetooth instead of a 5GHz wlan radio. I'll just buy a usb wireless adapter to test/monitor signal strength of the 5GHz band.

By the way, did the "order status" feature keep posting "in process" for your order till you cancelled?

Yes... it kept saying "in process" even thought I was told it was at the warehouse ready to build.
On Tuesday (IIRC), they removed the estimated shipping date.

WEll, I chatted again with their online support.

REP: "The order is due to ship in the week of the 13th April and as it is already assigned to the warehouse it will ship sooner."

I guess have to take that as good news!!!

Sorry elnovo but that was the same thing they kept telling me. Something is going on with Lenovo and these laptops. I ordered mine through Provantage and it has already shipped and is scheduled to arrive on Monday.

As far as canceling I cancled directly through a Lenovo customer service rep. Although I'm skeptical they actually canceled, but since I used Discover I think I should be fine if they do end up shipping it to me anyway.

If for some odd reason they do ship it and you are home for the delivery (I think you have to sign for anything from Lenovo) refuse acceptance of the package and refuse to sign it.

As soon as you sign for it, it shows acceptance and you may have a much harder time getting a refund. This is at least was I was taught in Business Law.

I had the same problem with shipping from Lenovo. Ordered the laptop on 3/27. Was told it would ship 4/6. The estimated ship date disappeared. After several calls...was told it would ship 4/19. I cancelled the order yesterday and bought a MacBook Pro. Too bad the rest of the world can't make or service their products as well as Apple.
