Thanks to leftbrain99's suggestion, the forum is now optimized for use on smartphones. We're using Tapatalk which is a mobile forum app available now for Android, Blackberry (beta), iPhone and Nokia.

Tapatalk supports all the usual forum functions plus full screen image viewing, caching (less reload), private messaging, all these features are accessible in just a few simple taps. The free version of the app will allow you to log in with read-only access to boards and private messages. The paid version of the app allows you to post and reply to forum messages and private messages and to view images.

Check out http://www.tapatalk.com for more information about getting the app and its functionality!

Here are a few screenshots of how the forum looks in Tapatalk on an iPhone - we hope you like it!

I just downloaded the app on my BlackBerry Pearl 8130 and connected to the forum and it works great!

Thanks for doing this, now I can kill some time during the day while public commuting.

Glad to hear the BlackBerry app is available and is working well for you! Is that the beta version, or has it been released now?

It's still in beta, but I haven't discovered any bugs yet.

Yes. I downloaded the app from the iTunes store for my Touch a few minutes ago.

With a high-res screen (e.g. my HTC Touch Pro2 has 800x480), the full site works very well. But of course, not many phones have such a high res, e.g. the iPhone is only 480x320.

Yes! This is awesome, and I'm glad others are able to use it. It is working great on my Moto Droid (except that I can't seem to access threads like this one in the Announcements section ) It's just really nice to be able to scan the Marketplace when I'm bored. Maybe I won't miss as many good deals anymore.

It works great on my iPhone. Would be nice to do landscape...will probably upgrade to the paid version.

Thanks for the feedback - we're happy to see so many forum members taking advantage of the new smartphone access! :thumbs-UP:

The Tapatalk developers seem to be a fairly responsive lot and have a forum at http://www.tapatalk.com/forum/ with a Features Request and Suggestion board that they monitor and respond to. If there are things you'd like added or improved, you can either post it here for us to pass on or post it on the Tapatalk forum yourself.

The Tapatalk crew has been busy this week. I know I got an update to my iPhone version (I sprung for the paid version), and I think they also released an update to the Android version as well as getting the Nokia version re-posted to that app store (Ovi?).

I think it's interesting that they provide a QR code for quick download of the Android version!

I've been accessing and posting to this forum for over a year, via my BlackBerry Bold 9000 or my iPhone.

It was a pain on the BB, not so much on the iPhone. Now that the forum is optimized for this app, I'm really enjoying it.

Thanks to Bill and all involved :thumbs-UP:

Cheers... :)

Well, rats! I could have sworn I saw a note from someone that it was available again.

Tapatalk now 'appears' that it is available for download, but my device cannot download it. This is the first app that I have tried to download. I wonder if at&t has restricted what I can download and install - or at least from where? I'll see if I can find out.

I thought I had a Nokia 6650 fold, but when I tried to download the app the error message said: "Sorry, this item is not available for your device: Nokia 6650d. Browse for more great content in the "Related" section below."

Ah-bah-bah-bah-bah-baaa... Check back next month. It'll look brilliant on the 4th gen. iPhone w/ 960x640.

And yes, it works great on the BlackBerry Bold 9000, iPhone 3GS, and HD2. Since it works on the HD2, it'll also work on the upcoming HTC EVO 4G as far as the screen is concerned. Has anyone tried it on an Android device yet?

I don't know, I gave it a try on an iPhone but didn't like it. I prefer browsing the forum in Safari. There was nothing I couldn't do through the web interface (and I couldn't even post). No performance difference either. What's the hype here?

If using the forum through Safari suits you, that's great! Some of us, however, didn't care for that and wanted a different method. Not sure why you'd label that as "hype".

Sorry, maybe "hype" wasn't the right word (English isn't my native language). I was just under impression that everybody think Tapatalk provides better experience. I didn't see any negative posts so I thought that maybe I missed some killer-feature. Oh well, it seems this is just not my cup of tea then.

For me, the benefit is that I can view the messages one right after the other in a menu and message format that's sized for the screen. I can't speak for the others, but being near-sighted, when I was using Safari to view the forum, I had to zoom in and scroll back and forth to be able to read messages. It really wasn't a working solution for me.

Fortunately, we both have a choice now! ;-)

There are two advantages for me: first, is that my phone has rather small screen size/resolution (240x320 pixels, 2.4") and this app makes things readable without zooming annoyance; second, i visit this forum when i have time (to kill), sometimes i do it when i'm in "non-wlan environment" and this app sure makes things go faster and thus cheaper (when compared to traditional browser based 3.5G surfing)...

I just installed a Tapatalk client on my phone (Sprint Palm Pre) and when I visit the thinkpads.com forums I get this message:

"Incompatible Forum - This forum uses an old version of the Tapatalk plugin. Please ask the forum admins to update the plugin to the latest version. You'll be limited to read-only mode until they update the plugin."

As a result, I can't log in and it doesn't bookmark the thinkpads.com forum as a favorite so I have to search for it every time I want to visit.

Is it possible to update the plugin to allow for use with the latest clients?

Many thanks!

It works great now for everything but posting. When I tried to reply to this thread I got this message (after composing and hitting send):

A new update came out last night after Bill updated to what was the current one. He said he would try to get it downloaded and replaced tonight. Try again tomorrow. If that doesn't fix it, we/you can adjourn to the Tapatalk forum to get help.
