Keyboard remapping

#1 Post by Aramis » Wed May 24, 2023 1:06 pm

Hello, I’m considering purchasing ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5. I have two questions regarding the keyboard setup.
1. Is it possible to remap the PrtScr key to F12 and map the original PrtScr key as the context menu key (same as Shift+F10)? If so, what software should I use to do that?
2. Is it possible to use Fn+left/right cursor keys as Home/End keys? If so, is it enabled by default or does it need to be turned on?

hello, welcome to the forum..
sadly it has been SO LONG since i remapped keys i can not help but it WAS possible at one time..
then, as i recall, almost all keys can be remapped by changing a table in the firmware but NOW with dedicated cpu's i just do not know without referring to the hardware manual.. see the "HMM" in my banner above..

Thanks guys! Searching the forum I managed to find the following:
"Current ThinkPads do offer this functionality. FN + arrow left replicates the Home key, FN + arrow right replicates the End key function. Of course, there are still dedicated Home/End keys in the 6th keyrow as well, so users have the choice how they want to use it."
If still true, that would provide the answer to one of my questions. However, the quote comes from 2019 so I don't know whether it applies to current ThinkPads. Would anyone with a 2022 X1 model care to check and let me know?
