TrackPoint on X1

#1 Post by karotlopj » Sun Jan 21, 2024 5:50 pm

Is it just me?

I have used ThinkPads for over 20 years and always liked using the TrackPoint, but on the X1 (I have two) I keep entering a string of hhhh's by mistake when scrolling right.

Also, the cursor seems to go to sleep for several seconds from time to time.

Does anyone have similar experiences?

I wondered about getting a slightly larger button, but have discovered that the one from my X61 won't work with the X1. Can I get a slightly taller trackpoint for my X1?

Yes, but I've been hitting Bs instead. It's my first ThinkPad in a while, so I may have just been out of practice. Due to the thinness of more recent ThinkPads, a taller trackpoint will likely touch your screen when closed. If you don't close it much then that may not be an issue. I did buy a low profile soft rim cap, which is my preferred cap and seem to be getting better, but it may be just getting back into the routine than the cap. Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply. Where do I get a low profile soft rim cap trackpoint? Do you have a P/N?

I found a couple :

eBay and Etsy

I went with the former, mainly because the Etsy sellers shop was closed when I was ordering and at the time they were only offering them in black, which did not seem like a good choice for a black keyboard. I did get an email from them later saying more colors were coming, but I had already ordered. I don't know where that stands now. Good Luck.

I have two X1 Carbons but have noticed that they have different square holes. One has 4mm like most of my other ThinkPads, but the other has 2mm.

Not sure that I have ever saw size specified.
