How to tell if a screen will be matte?

#1 Post by ghanwani » Sun Feb 04, 2024 10:33 pm

Are either of these matte?

X1 Carbon Gen 11 Non Touch

Display : 14" WUXGA (1920 x 1200), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, 100%sRGB, 400 nits, 60Hz, Low Power

X1 Carbon Gen 11 Touch

14" WUXGA (1920 x 1200), IPS, Anti-Glare, Touch, 100%sRGB, 400 nits, 60Hz, LED Backlight, Low Blue Light

X1 Carbon Gen 12

Display : 14" 2.8K (2880 x 1800), OLED, Anti-Glare, Anti Reflection, Anti Smudge, Non-Touch, HDR 500, 100%DCI-P3, 400 nits, 120Hz, Low Blue Light

Does this mean the Gen 11 Non Touch display doesn’t have the low blue light feature?

Does the OLED panel in the Gen 12 use DC dimming or PWM?

When it says anti-glare, that's a matte screen. It looks like, according to the specs, all but the 500 nit matte screen are either EyeSafe 2.0 certified, which is supposed to minimize blue light or say they're low blue light displays. The review of the X1C Gen 11 over on Notebookcheck does say the OLED LCD exhibits PWM.

FYI if it’s OLED then it’s not LCD.

It's six of one, half dozen of the other.
